What Mechanical hiring looks like for candidates

Mechanical openings on HireSetu typically cover design, manufacturing support, quality, and plant-facing engineering. CAD fluency and practical process awareness matter more than generic software keywords.

Mechanical hiring on HireSetu, read across employers

Written on 2026-09-11 from the 57 Mechanical listings open then, across 42 employers; 46 are open today. It describes clusters and proportions rather than individual listings.

Mechanical engineering on HireSetu is a graduate market with a clear map. Eight in ten of the listings ask for zero years, none ask for three or more, and four in five are on-site — this is not work done from home. Pune holds about four in ten of the roles, Bengaluru just under three in ten, and the rest are scattered across plant towns that a candidate searching by metro would never see. The employer list is long and shallow: 42 companies, most with a single opening, and one — Eaton — with seven, all in Pune.

Pune is the centre, and Eaton is a large part of why

Eaton's seven Pune roles are worth reading as a set because they describe a whole product-engineering centre taking in graduates at once. Two are design — an associate engineer in mechanical and aerospace product design, and one on EV connectors. The other five are analysis: flow and thermal, modelling and simulation, structures, structural dynamics, and a general mechanical associate. That split, design alongside a larger analysis group, is unusual in an entry-level intake and says what the Hadapsar centre does. Around Eaton, Pune has the automotive and industrial supplier base that gives the city its weight in this sample: Magna, Knorr-Bremse, TE Connectivity, Aptiv, Konecranes, Danfoss, Vertiv, Flex, and GE Aerospace's welding-and-forming engineer. A mechanical graduate who can be in Pune has access to more of this list than one anywhere else.

The plant towns

Design and analysis roles sit in Pune and Bengaluru. Production roles sit where the factory is, and in this sample that means a set of locations most job searches skip: Rockwell Automation's assembly process role in Kancheepuram, Schaeffler's tool design in Hosur, Motherson's graduate trainee in Sanand, Caterpillar's associate engineer in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Plansee's design trainee in Mysore, Xylem's graduate engineer in Vadodara, Johnson Controls' diploma trainee in Ahmedabad. None of these is a metro, and each is an employer's actual plant. A candidate who filters to Bengaluru and Pune sees the design side of mechanical hiring and misses the manufacturing side almost completely. The reverse is also true: a candidate who wants shop-floor and process work should search by these towns, not by city.

One requirement is universal; the CAD tool is not

GD&T appears on more listings than any single piece of software, tied with CAD in general and with mechanical design as a phrase. Tolerance stack-up and DFMEA follow. The CAD packages themselves split three ways with no clear winner — SolidWorks and Creo tie, AutoCAD sits just behind — and the postings that name one tend to name only one. The practical reading is that geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is the skill every employer here will test, and that fluency in one CAD package plus the ability to read drawings from another is worth more than shallow familiarity with all three. PLM shows up on a third of the design listings, which is how these employers manage the drawings once they exist, and the ALTEN postings in particular are explicit that they want PLM users, not administrators.

Trainee schemes are a quarter of the list

Thirteen of the 57 listings are trainee programmes by title — graduate engineer trainee at Aesoft, ALTEN, Konecranes, Magna, Motherson, Xylem and twice at CERATIZIT (one in production, one in design), a diploma engineer trainee at Johnson Controls, trainee engineers at Plansee and Epiroc, an apprentice CAD engineer at Oceaneering, and a junior-or-GET posting at abeo. A further ten use Associate Engineer as the grade, which at Eaton, Danfoss, Flex, Stanley Black & Decker and Vertiv is the entry level. Where the trainee postings describe what they want, it is the ability to read an engineering drawing and understand an assembly, not software experience; ALTEN's spare-parts trainee says outright that a graduate who cannot confidently read a drawing will struggle more than one with limited software exposure but strong fundamentals. That is a good description of the whole trainee tier here.

Reading the sample

The domain mix is wide — automotive and mobility suppliers, aerospace, pumps and flow, electronics manufacturing, and three cemented-carbide tooling firms in CERATIZIT, Kennametal and Plansee — but the employer list is shallow, with 33 of 42 holding one opening, so no single company beyond Eaton defines the field here. A handful of listings sit at the edges of mechanical: a UAV research role at Nova Robotics, a lab technician at onsemi, a building-services assistant engineer at Mott MacDonald. Fifty-seven listings is a mid-sized sample for this site. What it says with confidence is that mechanical hiring reaching HireSetu is graduate intake, split between design centres in two cities and factories in seven towns, with GD&T as the common test.
