HireSetu's note

Sizing carries the weight

A degree in engineering gets your CV into the pile. The requirement that separates applicants is hands-on control valve sizing and selection: working out Cv from flow conditions for liquid, gas and steam, checking cavitation, flashing and noise against what a plant will accept, then choosing a body and trim that holds up in service. Reading a datasheet is a different skill from sizing a valve and defending the choice.

The sizing program here is Emerson's own, so you learn that tool on the job. Sizing done in another vendor's software or a house spreadsheet transfers, because the judgement is the part that moves with you. Be ready to walk through one valve you sized, what the process conditions were, and what you changed after review.

Where the profile lands

The Engineer I tag reads junior, and the sizing requirement pulls the other way. This lands best with someone who has a year or two inside a valve maker, an EPC's instrumentation group or a proposals desk already writing quotes. A fresher with a strong instrumentation or mechanical degree can get through, but they'll be learning sizing and the quoting rhythm at the same time.

Expect documents: specification reviews, quotes, deviation lists, drawings and reports, with revisions arriving back from customers and factories. Ask how many quotes one engineer carries and who reviews them, because that sets the pace of the week. Engineers who moved off site into this kind of work tend to enjoy seeing a range of plants on paper; others miss the field.
