The group you’ll be a part of

Do you want to jumpstart your career in Manufacturing Engineering? Are you interested in helping build the next generation of IC manufacturing machines?

Are you excited about cleanroom manufacturing of Semiconductor capital equipment?

Come, explore opportunities at Lam Research!

Lam Research is a leading global manufacturer of capital equipment used in making leading edge-semiconductors across the world. We primarily compete in four specific areas – deposition, etch, photoresist strip, and single wafer clean. Many years ago, Lam Research embarked on a journey to set up an Engineering center in Bangalore to expand its reach to Indian talent pool.

Over two decades, this center has expanded its capability and scope beyond Engineering and is organized into three major areas of responsibility: Hardware, Software, and Operations. One of the major functional groups of this entity is LIGO (Lam India Global Operations).

Within LIGO, manufacturing engineering, cost performance engineering, supply chain and logistics, spares operations and planning, order fulfilment, inventory management, and supplier QA engineering functions work collaboratively to deliver best in class solutions for Lam’s global operations.

Lam India has an opening for the role of a Manufacturing Engineer within LIGO Manufacturing Engineering. This position will be based out of Bangalore, directly reporting into the leader of LIGO Manufacturing Engineering team and closely working with Global Manufacturing sites.

The impact you’ll make

Join Lam as a Manufacturing Engineer where you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the new product pilot production factory, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume manufacturing production factory. Using your knowledge of technology and engineering principles you will oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations. You'll tackle technical, quality, and production challenges. Your expertise optimizing manufacturing costs and standards helps shape Lam's commitment to innovation and efficiency in manufacturing.

In this role, LIGO Manufacturing Engineers work collaboratively with build factories across geographies to design and develop fixtures, ensure build readiness, and resolve assembly issues. We are in constant pursuit of manufacturing excellence through continuous improvements and innovations.

Your typical day

  • Design, develop, and implement safe and cost-effective simple fixtures and methods of assembly for all phases of manufacturing
  • Perform virtual build of sub-assemblies/assemblies and define sequence of operations for Pilot builds
  • Define process and methods for high volume manufacturing which includes operations method sheet, routing, and sequencing
  • Interface with manufacturing teams from Global Factory network to address issues pertaining to assembly sequence, fixtures, and product design
  • Participate actively in Idea generation forums and contribute to process improvement initiatives
  • Understand Lam products and its manufacturing process

You are

  • * A B.E. / B. Tech in Mechanical/Production/Industrial Engineering with minimum 65% aggregate
  • Graduating in 2027 without any backlogs

You need to know

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and methods
  • Application of Manufacturing Technology, Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines to address manufacturing challenges
  • Knowledge of machining, welding, molding, sheet-metal fabrication & casting processes
  • Understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly with approach to structured problem solving and decision-making
  • Fundamental data analytics and statistical skills

Nice to know

  • Hands-on projects that include prototyping and assembly
  • Advanced manufacturing methods – Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing, Water jet machining, Ceramic manufacturing
  • Experience with 3D Modelling, Assembly using any CAD package
  • Use of simulation tools such as Ansys, Nastran, Creo Simulate etc
  • Internship in manufacturing/assembly set-up

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

HireSetu's note

Graduating in 2027, with the marks to clear

Two conditions decide whether your application gets read at all: a 65% aggregate and a 2027 graduation date with zero backlogs, in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering. Finish in 2026, or carry a live backlog, and the application doesn't go anywhere. Check how your college computes aggregate before you apply, since some report it across all eight semesters and some don't.

Fixtures, virtual builds, method sheets

Day to day this is design and documentation work for machines built in small numbers. You design simple fixtures, run virtual builds of sub-assemblies, work out the sequence of operations for pilot builds, then turn that into method sheets, routings and sequencing for volume production. Problems from the build floor land on your desk as a part number, a drawing and a description of what went wrong. Expect CAD most days and a lot of back and forth over why a step won't work on a real unit.

The factory floor sits in another country

LIGO engineers in Bengaluru support build sites elsewhere, so much of the job is answering questions from people assembling the machine while you're at your desk in Bengaluru. Their shifts don't line up with yours, and early or late calls come with the territory. It pays to write an email or mark up a drawing someone can act on without a call. The machines here are semiconductor capital equipment: complex, low volume, and unforgiving of a wrong sequence.

What to lead with on your CV

The listing flags prototyping and assembly projects, CAD modelling and assembly, and simulation in Ansys, Nastran or Creo Simulate. A build you actually assembled outranks one you only modelled, so say what you made, which process, and what you had to change. Additive manufacturing, 3D printing, water jet and ceramic work count. So does the coursework: manufacturing technology, strength of materials, theory of machines, DFMA. A statistics or data analytics course earns a line here too.
