HireSetu listing reference bf752d — confirm requirements below, then apply on the employer site.
Quick answer: Airbound is filling mechanical engineering roles on two tracks, mechanism design and composites/structures, and hiring at every level. Build team or shipped-hardware experience carries the weight that years normally do here.

About Airbound
Our mission is to make a world where everyone has access to delivery. Where goods move as freely as information moves today.
This is possible. Today the cost of moving on a scooter is ₹2/km. That’s the cost of moving a 150kg mass from point A to B. We’re bringing that mass down to less than 5kgs, concurrently bringing the cost down to 10 paise/km. This is how we make deliveries a reality. This is how we create a world where we’re doing billions of deliveries per day.
The tech is not there. The current cost of drone delivery is ₹100/km. We need to completely redefine the way things are done here. We’re building the world’s most efficient aircraft from the ground-up, and scaling that up to beyond anything the aerospace sector has ever seen. This cannot be an iterative process. We have to tear down all conventions and build everything up from scratch.
To do this, we need nothing less than the best engineers. The ones who care about building something fundamentally different, who are deeply curious about understanding the fundamentals of everything they’re working on, who are dreamers that believe in the impossible.
About Hardware Engineering
Hardware Engineering owns the aircraft's physical development, from a concept sketch to a part that flies. This spans system design, mechanism design, and structural design: working out how something moves, what it's made of, and whether it holds up under real load. Because most of what we design is custom, it also means designing the equipment we use to prove our work — rigs, jigs, and testers built specifically to validate a design before it goes anywhere near a real flight. It's one team across concept, design, initial prototyping, and test: the full arc of getting a product from an idea to something that ships.
About the Role
We're hiring Mechanical Engineers across all levels. Apply regardless of years of experience; we'll place you at the right level based on your background and how you perform through the interview process. You'll take mechanical assemblies from concept through design, prototyping, testing, and into a shipped product, working closely with flight systems, composites, manufacturing, and external vendors along the way.
We're looking for engineers who've shipped real hardware before, ideally having seen a product through at least one full development lifecycle, and who are comfortable owning a problem from first sketch to flying part. We're hiring for two kinds of strength on this team, and you should be strong in at least one: detailed mechanism design, or composites and structures.
Mechanical Systems Design
Design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies for our aircraft, from early concept through production intent
Build and test prototypes yourself - this is a hands-on role where you will own an end-to-end mechanical system from concept through testing through production
Analysis & Validation
Run load calculations, tolerance stacks, basic FEA, and weight budgets to validate designs before they're cut or molded
Manufacturing Process Collaboration
Work with composites layup, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining to choose the right process for each part
Composites & Structures Track
If focused on composites/structures: build and improve how we model and design composite structures (laminate design, layup optimization, and structural analysis) rather than just building to a fixed layup
Mechanism Design Track
If focused on mechanism design: select the right actuation hardware for the job (servos, stepper motors, and similar) and write short scripts to drive and test them
Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with external vendors and fabrication shops to get parts made to spec, on time
Translate requirements from internal teams (flight systems, manufacturing, product) and external stakeholders into concrete mechanical designs
Chase down the details that make the difference between a part that works on the bench and one that survives a thousand flights
Must-Have
Advanced proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD
Working knowledge of load calculations, tolerance analysis, basic FEA, and weight budgeting
Ability to do first principles checks on loads, forces, energies with napkin calcs, or free body diagrams
Hands-on experience designing and prototyping mechanical/electromechanical assemblies for robotics applications
Familiarity with the basics of composites layup, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and machining
Strength in at least one of the following
Detailed mechanism design (including selecting the right actuation hardware - servos, stepper motors, and similar - and writing short scripts to drive and test them)
Composites and structures (including composite modeling and analysis, not just layup execution)
Basic project management skills - able to scope, plan, and run your own projects with minimal oversight
Strong attention to detail and genuine ownership over the parts you touch
Clear communicator, comfortable working directly with both internal engineering teams and external vendors
Willingness to go the extra mile when a project needs it
Good to Have
Experience with designing / building parts for UAV or aerospace applications
Hands-on project experience (BAJA, FSAE, or similar build teams) is a great substitute for professional experience, especially earlier in your career
Work location: Hoskote, Bangalore (Headquarters)
What We Offer
Comprehensive health insurance to keep you and your loved ones covered
Relocation assistance and a daily travel stipend to ease your commute
Advanced salary credit to support you when you need it
“A driven, passionate team where you’ll have room to grow and thrive - this is more than just a job, it’s a rare opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up”
Work Schedule
In-office role, working alternate Saturdays.

HireSetu's note
Freshers with build projects belong here too
The listing says apply regardless of years, and it names BAJA, FSAE and similar teams as a substitute for professional experience. That's a real opening, not a formality. A final-year student who designed a suspension upright, machined it, broke it and redesigned it has a better story than someone with three years of drawing revisions. What you need is one project you owned end to end, from a concept sketch to something that moved.
The two tracks want different proof. On mechanism design, talk about choosing a servo or stepper for a specific load and writing the code to run it. On composites, the bar is laminate design and analysis; building to a fixed layup someone else worked out doesn't carry much. Decide which of the two your work actually demonstrates before you apply, because the team is built around that split.
Flight experience isn't required. The mechanics are. A switcher from a non-aerospace background fits if the parts they've made were theirs to defend.
Two things to settle early
Hoskote is the headquarters, well outside central Bengaluru, and the week includes alternate Saturdays. Relocation help and a daily travel stipend are part of the package, so ask how the commute works in practice and whether a shuttle runs from the city. That decides what your week actually costs you.
Ask which track you're being considered for and who makes that call, since it changes what a normal week looks like. Also ask how much of your time goes to building rigs, jigs and testers. The team owns its own test equipment, so that work sits alongside design rather than being a separate job.
One more: how parts get made. Vendors and fabrication shops are in the loop, so ask how often engineers visit them or sit with machinists. Most of what Airbound designs is custom, and that contact is where a lot of the practical learning sits.
