About Airbound
Our mission is to make a world where everyone has access to delivery. Where goods move as freely as information moves today.
This is possible. Today the cost of moving on a scooter is ₹2/km. That’s the cost of moving a 150kg mass from point A to B. We’re bringing that mass down to less than 5kgs, concurrently bringing the cost down to 10 paise/km. This is how we make deliveries a reality. This is how we create a world where we’re doing billions of deliveries per day.
The tech is not there. The current cost of drone delivery is ₹100/km. We need to completely redefine the way things are done here. We’re building the world’s most efficient aircraft from the ground-up, and scaling that up to beyond anything the aerospace sector has ever seen. This cannot be an iterative process. We have to tear down all conventions and build everything up from scratch.
To do this, we need nothing less than the best engineers. The ones who care about building something fundamentally different, who are deeply curious about understanding the fundamentals of everything they’re working on, who are dreamers that believe in the impossible.
About Hardware Engineering
Hardware Engineering owns the aircraft's physical development, from a concept sketch to a part that flies. This spans system design, mechanism design, and structural design: working out how something moves, what it's made of, and whether it holds up under real load. Because most of what we design is custom, it also means designing the equipment we use to prove our work — rigs, jigs, and testers built specifically to validate a design before it goes anywhere near a real flight. It's one team across concept, design, initial prototyping, and test: the full arc of getting a product from an idea to something that ships.
About the Role
We're hiring a Mechanical Engineering Intern - for freshers and university students who've built things with their own hands, not just studied how to. No prior professional experience is required; what we're looking for instead is real, hands-on project experience: BAJA, FSAE, robotics teams, personal builds, or similar.
Mechanism & Assembly Design
Support the design and development of mechanisms and mechanical assemblies for our aircraft, from early concept through production intent
Build and test prototypes yourself — this is a hands-on role, not a design-and-hand-off one
Analysis & Validation
Assist with load calculations, tolerance stacks, basic FEA, and weight budgets to validate designs before they're cut or molded
Manufacturing Process Exposure
Work with composites layup, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and CNC machining to learn how to choose the right process for each part
Composites & Structures Track
If focused on composites/structures: help us model and design composite structures — laminate design, layup optimization, and structural analysis — rather than just building to a fixed layup
Mechanism Design Track
If focused on mechanism design help select actuation hardware — servos, stepper motors, and similar — and write short scripts to drive and test them
Must-Have
Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
Real hands-on project experience (BAJA, FSAE, robotics, or similar build teams) that demonstrates genuine mechanism design or composites/structures work, not just coursework
Working familiarity with 2D and 3D CAD
Basic understanding of load calculations, tolerance analysis, and weight budgeting
Strength in at least one of the following
Detailed mechanism design (including actuation hardware selection and basic scripting to drive and test it)
Composites and structures (modeling and analysis, not just layup execution)
Strong attention to detail and a willingness to get hands-on with hardware
Clear communicator, comfortable working with both internal teams and external vendors
Willingness to go the extra mile when a project needs it
Work location: Hoskote, Bangalore (Headquarters)
What We Offer
Comprehensive health insurance to keep you and your loved ones covered
Relocation assistance and a daily travel stipend to ease your commute
Advanced salary credit to support you when you need it
“A driven, passionate team where you’ll have room to grow and thrive - this is more than just a job, it’s a rare opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up”
Work Schedule
In-office role, working alternate Saturdays.

HireSetu's note
Hoskote, and alternate Saturdays
The headquarters is at Hoskote, on the eastern edge of Bengaluru, so an hour or more of commuting from the city centre is normal. Airbound offers relocation help and a daily travel stipend, which tells you they expect interns to either move closer or commit to the ride. Alternate Saturdays in office is a real cost for an internship, especially if you are still finishing a degree. Ask how the Saturday rotation works and what the daily timings are before you accept.
Pick your track first
The internship splits into two tracks and asks for strength in at least one. Mechanism design means selecting servos and stepper motors and writing short scripts to drive and test them, so bring a project where you sized an actuator and ran it yourself. Composites and structures means laminate design, layup optimisation and analysis, with modelling work involved. Show up on the wrong track and a strong portfolio reads as thin. Make your first line say which one you are on.
The resume should read like a build log
FEA and validation are the named skills, so lead with the parts you can defend in detail: what it was, what it was made of, what it weighed, what load it saw, which tolerances you had to hold, how the analysis was set up. Numbers beat adjectives every time. If you dealt with a machinist or an outside vendor to get something made, put that in, since the listing wants people who can talk to external vendors. Coursework titles carry no weight here.
