Quick answer: Most of this job is 3D modelling and manufacturing drawings for connectors and cable assemblies, plus the change paperwork that keeps released drawings current. The qualifications list asks for 3+ years and hands-on connector experience, which is a lot to clear for a first job.

HireSetu's note

Three years and connector work

Inside the qualifications sits a 3+ years ask for product development, product sustenance or engineering change management, along with prior work on connectors, wiring harnesses or similar electromechanical components. A mechanical degree and one CAD project do not match that. If you have a drafting internship or any time on an electromechanical part, that belongs at the top of your CV, and drawing samples are worth carrying to the interview. Freshers with solid NX and GD&T do apply, though the shortlist will lean experienced.

A week of models, drawings and change packages

Expect long stretches in NX: 3D models, 2D drawings built to Molex standards, checking other engineers' drawings, mark-ups, ECR packages, and pushing updates through document control so the released revision matches the change. Sustenance work means existing connector families, not blank-page concepts. Engineering, manufacturing, quality and suppliers sit across sites, so a fair share of the coordination happens on calls and in written notes. Accuracy and turnaround count for more than invention here.

Design here means sustainment

Titles overlap in this field. A design engineer at a consumer products company often owns a part from concept through tooling. This seat sits on the sustaining side: modifications, enhancements, drawing quality, revision control. The geometry mostly exists, and your job is to keep it correct, manufacturable and properly documented. If you want to define new connector architectures from scratch, concept and R&D teams are the better entry point.

Topics to revise beforehand

GD&T: datum reference frames, position and profile tolerances, MMC, and how a drawing tells an inspector what to check. Tolerance stack-up by worst case and by root-sum-square. DFMEA basics, including how severity and detection ratings get assigned. On tools, NX modelling and drafting plus Teamcenter revision and release flow. Learn the parts too: plastic housings, stamped terminals, plated contacts, sheet metal shells, and how they come together into a finished connector.
