What Operations hiring looks like for candidates

Operations roles span business ops, program coordination, and process ownership. Employers look for stakeholder management, metrics hygiene, and reliable execution under ambiguity.

Operations hiring on HireSetu, read across employers

Written on 2026-09-11 from the 42 Operations listings open then, across 27 employers; 32 are open today. It describes clusters and proportions rather than individual listings.

Operations on HireSetu is financial-services back office by a wide margin, at the entry grade almost without exception, and described in the postings by process rather than by tool. Nine in ten of the listings ask for zero years. More than half sit with banks, card networks, insurers and asset managers. And the skills tally for this industry is empty — not one named skill appears on four or more listings — which is not a data gap but a description of the work: these employers are hiring for procedural accuracy, service levels and shift discipline, and their postings say so instead of listing software.

Citi's eight roles map the ladder

Citi lists a fifth of the sample on its own, and its titles carry the grade in a code — C09 for the entry analyst, C10 for the next step — which is worth learning to read because it says more than the title does. The C09 roles are a cash and trade processing analyst in Pune and a KYC operations analyst in Mumbai; the C10 roles are a client onboarding analyst in Mumbai and a reference data services analyst in Gurugram. Around them sit a banking operations specialist and an operations support analyst in Pune, an asset-servicing analyst in Mumbai, and a process-excellence and AI-productivity specialist for KYC operations asking one to three years. The city pattern inside Citi is the pattern of the whole industry: Pune is transaction processing, Mumbai is the client lifecycle — KYC, onboarding, asset servicing — and Gurugram is data.

The postings do not list skills, and that is the information

Read a dozen of these listings and the same things recur where a software posting would name a stack: service-level agreements and turnaround times, accuracy measured alongside productivity, cut-off times, escalation within a set window, and in several cases the shift pattern. Deutsche Bank's payments analyst carries an end-of-day checklist whose self-assessment is signed by the analyst and countersigned by the team manager; its clearing analyst may be placed in any of nine trade-services processes and is expected to certify across them. Two postings — globallogic's and one of Cigna's — describe themselves as non-technical and non-voice, and a number accept any graduate. What an employer here wants to see on a resume is evidence of having worked a queue accurately under a deadline, and an understanding of why a control exists. A candidate who arrives with a coding portfolio has answered a question that was not asked.

Mumbai matters in this field

Bengaluru is the largest city for operations as it is for everything else, but only narrowly. Pune is close behind, and Mumbai is a genuine third centre in a way it is not for engineering — Citi's KYC, onboarding and asset-servicing roles, Barclays' support role, Marsh and MMC's insurance operations, Russell Investments' apprentice. The reason is the work: client-lifecycle operations for banks and insurers sit near the institutions' front offices, and those are in Mumbai. Gurugram carries the data and product side — Citi's reference data, S&P Global's KYC associate and project-management apprentice, Guardian, and Mastercard's product specialist. Just under four in ten of the listings are hybrid or remote, which is higher than the engineering fields and reflects how much of this work is screen-based.

Grade codes and apprenticeships

The entry grade is spelled out in the titles more often here than anywhere else on the site: Citi's C09 and C10, Cigna's Band 1, Deutsche Bank's NCT, and the Analyst 1 and Analyst 2 numbering several employers use. Three listings are apprenticeships or graduate-trainee programmes — Russell Investments in Mumbai, S&P Global's IT project-management apprentice in Gurugram, and Epicor's learning-operations intern — and Ansira's three Pune associates read as a delivery-centre intake. One listing does not belong to the entry tier however it is tagged: Adani's assistant commercial manager in Ahmedabad asks for up to five years.

Reading the tag

A few listings carry Operations from their employer's portal category rather than their content: WSP's associate electrical engineer is an engineering role, Mastercard's executive assistant and associate product specialist are neither back office nor processing, and Amazon's ML data operations associate is closer to data labelling. Set those aside and the sample is a clear picture: entry-grade process work for financial and insurance institutions, split between Pune's transaction desks, Mumbai's client-facing operations and Bengaluru, measured on accuracy and turnaround, and hired for the habit of following a control rather than for any named tool.
