The experience bar

Citi calls this entry-level, and C09 is the junior grade. The requirement that matters is one to three years in banking, finance or law. A fresh graduate with no finance internship will struggle to show that, while someone moving from a law firm, bank operations or a compliance support team has a clear fit. KYC or AML experience helps, though the finance, law or banking background is the main door. ACAMS certification helps too, so put it near the top of your CV if you have it.

Revise the EU rules

The job uses European Union KYC and AML requirements as its frame, so know the basics of client due diligence, beneficial ownership, PEP screening and suspicious activity escalation. Be able to explain how a KYC record is built from formation documents, ownership details and adverse media, and why a missing ownership link matters. The machine learning line is real, despite sitting oddly in a KYC role. Learn a few core AI concepts and think of one plain example where automation could cut a repetitive check. Keep any AI explanation practical: name the check, the benefit and the limit.

After a year or two

The natural moves are senior case handling, quality control, periodic review or broader AML compliance. KYC experience transfers across banks and consultancies that run client onboarding for European clients, and Mumbai has plenty of those teams. The work is deadline-driven and detail-heavy. You will spend much of the day chasing relationship managers, checking documents and keeping a workflow tool accurate, so tolerance for follow-ups and record-keeping counts for a lot.
