HireSetu's note

Assurance work, done from inside the team

Control testing means reading evidence to check a control ran the way it was designed to: a reconciliation signed off on time, an approval genuinely obtained, a step that quietly got skipped. Your output is a documented finding and, later, advice on closing the gap.

This is not statutory or internal audit. You sit inside service delivery operations, working on the department's own risks and controls, with managers who own the process rather than an audit client across the table. People arriving from audit find the rhythm different: fewer files built for a report, more running conversation with the people whose work you are checking.

Colleagues in the UK set the framework you work to, so part of your day will overlap with their hours. Confirm the shift pattern before you accept, since it decides how your evenings look.

The realistic entry profile

The degree list is broad and a fresher can apply, but the preferred line, another Big 4 or banking, shows where the team expects this hire to come from. They want someone who already speaks risk, controls and risk appetite without a month of hand-holding. An internship or a year in operations where you owned a process, a checklist or a reconciliation counts for a lot here.

What the work actually rewards is temperament: chasing a manager for evidence, holding a polite line when a control failed, and writing it up so nothing has to be guessed. Word, PowerPoint and Excel are the working tools, and a good share of the job is a spreadsheet with thousands of rows in it.
