Quick answer: A Bengaluru R&D role where one engineer owns a subsystem from requirements through schematic, firmware, bring-up and qualification. Two years of hands-on embedded work is the floor, and the daily work sits at the boundary where hardware faults and firmware faults look identical.

Role Summary
We are looking for a dynamic and hands-on Embedded Hardware/Software Design Engineer who can work across the complete embedded system development lifecycle. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of both electronics hardware and embedded software and should be comfortable taking a system from requirements and architecture through hardware design, firmware development, integration, testing, debugging, and final qualification. This role is suited for engineers who enjoy understanding the complete system, rather than working exclusively within either hardware or software.
Key Responsibility
Understand system-level requirements and translate them into hardware and software architectures.
Design embedded electronic systems including: Microcontroller / processor-based architectures, Power supply and power distribution circuits, Analog and digital interfaces, Sensors and actuator interfaces, Communication interfaces, Memory and peripheral interfaces.
Perform component selection, schematic design, design reviews, and PCB design coordination.
Develop and debug embedded firmware in C/C++.
Develop firmware for peripherals and communication protocols such as: UART, SPI, I2C, CAN / CAN-FD, RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485, Ethernet and other interfaces as required.
Develop device drivers, board-support software, and application-level embedded software.
Work with bare-metal and/or RTOS-based embedded systems.
Perform board bring-up, hardware validation, firmware integration, and system-level debugging.
Debug hardware and software issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, debuggers, protocol analyzers, and other laboratory equipment.
Develop test setups, test firmware, and validation procedures.
Participate in design reviews, failure analysis, root-cause analysis, and design improvement activities.
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including architecture documents, interface definitions, schematics, test procedures, design notes, and test reports.
Work closely with mechanical, electronics, software, RF, systems, testing, manufacturing, and other engineering teams.
Take ownership of assigned subsystems and drive them from concept through implementation and validation.
Required Skills and Qualification
Strong fundamentals in analog and digital electronics.
Good understanding of microcontrollers, processors, memories, ADCs, DACs, sensors, and common peripheral devices.
Good understanding of embedded hardware architecture and board-level design.
Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++.
Understanding of microcontroller peripherals, interrupts, timers, DMA, watchdogs, boot processes, and memory architectures.
Experience with common embedded communication protocols.
Ability to read and understand schematics, datasheets, timing diagrams, and hardware specifications.
Hands-on experience with board bring-up and debugging.
Ability to debug problems spanning both hardware and firmware.
Good analytical and system-level problem-solving abilities.
Minimum Qualification: B.Tech / B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) or a closely related electronics discipline.
ARM Cortex-M based microcontrollers
STM32, Microchip SAM, NXP, TI, Renesas, or similar platforms
FreeRTOS or other RTOS platforms
CAN, RS-422/485, Ethernet, USB or other industrial communication interfaces
FPGA interfaces or basic FPGA knowledge
High-reliability, aerospace, defence, automotive, robotics, industrial, or other complex embedded systems
Experience, Title and Work Mode
Experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant hands-on industry experience in embedded electronics, embedded software, or embedded system development.
Title: Embedded Systems Engineer
Embedded Hardware Architecture
Embedded C/C++

HireSetu's note
One person on both sides of the boundary
Many embedded roles let you pick a side: board design or firmware. This one turns system requirements into a hardware architecture and a software architecture, then expects you to deliver both. Component selection, schematic, PCB coordination, and then the C/C++ that runs on the result, drivers through application code.
Two years of hands-on work is the minimum, so a couple of finished boards you brought up yourself counts for more here than a longer stretch on one narrow task. Ask which subsystems are open and whether the board already exists, because a blank sheet and a board that will not boot are very different first months.
Timers, DMA and the parts that bite
Bring-up and debugging take up most of the week: scope, logic analyser, protocol analyser, debugger, and faults that could belong to either side. Revise how interrupts, timers and DMA behave on a Cortex-M class part, along with watchdog reset paths, boot sequence and the memory map. Know these cold and a board comes alive at first power-on; miss them and you lose a fortnight.
The wish list around bootloaders, sensor interfacing, DC-DC design, EMI-aware layout, HIL rigs and Python test scripts describes the shape of a generalist board engineer. Go deep on the two you have actually done.
FreeRTOS changes how you write the code
The firmware can be bare metal or RTOS-based, with FreeRTOS named. RTOS work means tasks, priorities, shared peripherals, and moving data out of an ISR without blocking anything else. If your college and work projects have all been one big superloop, write a two-task FreeRTOS program on any dev board this month; the mechanics carry across chips.
Ask what you would inherit: an existing codebase with drivers to fix, or a new board where you work from the datasheet up. That answer shapes the first six months more than the job title does.
