HireSetu's note
Your marks get checked before your code
The eligibility line is a cut, not a preference: 85% or 8.5 CGPA, no current backlogs, no repeated year, no gap in studies. Plenty of capable engineers fall on the wrong side of that, and it is better to know before you spend an evening on the form.
Clear that bar and the technical ask is narrow and clear. Solid C and C++ coding, plus Layer 2 and 3 protocol knowledge. Linux and scripting sit in the advantage column, which makes them tie-breakers between two similar candidates, not requirements you have to tick to apply.
Debugging takes more of the week than writing features
The listing pairs feature development with resolving complex system issues raised by QA and customers, and for a junior on a device team the second half dominates. A fault report comes in, and the cause could sit in a driver, a stack layer or the hardware below it. That is the cross-layer part, and it is slow, careful work.
Get comfortable with logs, packet captures, debuggers and reading code you did not write. You will not know the product on day one, and nobody joining at this level does.
Networking is what separates the resumes
Most fresher embedded profiles look the same: C, a microcontroller, one project. Layer 2 and 3 protocols is where this job gets specific, so know how Ethernet frames and IP packets actually move through a device, where VLANs and switching fit, and where traffic gets dropped.
Harmonic builds broadband access equipment for service providers, so the traffic in question is subscriber traffic on an operator network. Reading up on how a home connection reaches the internet through an access device will make the interviews feel less abstract.
Three office days a week in Bangalore
Hybrid here means 3 to 4 days in the office weekly, so plan your commute and living situation around that. The work is conversational: chasing an issue means talking to hardware engineers, QA and sometimes a customer's technical staff, which is why communication and fluent English show up as requirements.
Ask which part of the broadband portfolio the team owns, how large the group is, and who you would report to. Those answers decide how much of the stack you actually get exposed to in your first year.
