HireSetu's note

The code reading is the job

Spectrum wants someone who can sit with a firmware codebase and work out what it is supposed to do, through header files, structs, unions, macros and bit flags, then check whether the device actually does it. You are not writing firmware here. You are proving it works, and writing up what happens when it does not. At interview that distinction matters: a tester who can read C and explain the intent behind a function is far more useful than one who only clicks through a screen.

The output is test cases, test scenarios, logs, console output and defect reports with reproduction steps. Clear written English counts for a lot. A bug report a firmware developer cannot act on is wasted work.

Get fluent in hex and bit fields

Binary, hexadecimal and decimal conversion, bitwise operations, bit masks, data packing and memory layouts are all on this list, and this is where many candidates fall apart. Practise by hand. Take a UART or SPI frame, decode the bytes, work out what each bit means, then note what a truncated or corrupted frame would look like.

The protocol list is long: UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, RS-232/RS-485 and Ethernet. Nobody with two years of experience is strong in all six. Pick the two you have genuinely touched, know their frame formats and common failure modes, and be straight about the rest. An evening with a microcontroller board and a serial terminal or logic analyser teaches more than another tutorial.

Ask about shift and project area

This is onsite in Kochi, so living nearby or being ready to relocate settles the biggest practical question early. Ask about the shift pattern when you talk to them. Hardware benches and device testing can come with staggered hours, and you want to know that before you accept.

Ask which domain the team sits in. Avionics, aerospace, automotive, ADAS, robotics and IoT appear as advantages on this listing, and the daily work looks quite different in each. Confirm whether the offer is on the company payroll or a contract, and how long the initial ramp-up lasts. The contact given is a recruitment division phone number and email, so a direct call is a normal way to get these answers.
