Where the bar actually sits
The must-haves are one to five years in financial analysis or FP&A and strong Excel or Sheets. SQL, Power BI, Tableau and Looker are listed as preferred, and so are CA Inter, CFA Level 1 and an MBA in Finance. Three years of FP&A and a heavy spreadsheet habit gets you in without any of those qualifications.
A fresher with CFA Level 1 and no work history is a stretch. The band starts at one year, and the responsibilities assume you have built a forecast and sat through a close. GCC or large-multinational experience is preferred as well, and it changes how fast you settle into a function still being set up.
Close week is the busy one
Budgeting and forecasting is the half of the job people picture. The other half is monthly reporting, variance analysis and reconciliations, with dashboards refreshed for leadership reviews. Expect to spend close week chasing cross-functional teams for spend numbers that land late and disagree with each other.
Explaining a variance in plain English to someone outside finance is the skill that gets tested here, not just the model.
Switching in from audit or a data team
Auditors and controllers move into FP&A all the time. The shift is one of direction: forecasting and explaining what comes next, against recording what already happened. If your CV is all statutory work, pull the one budget or forecast exercise you touched to the top.
It cuts the other way too. A data analyst with SQL and Power BI clears the tooling bar and can still stall on which variance leadership will care about. That finance vocabulary is the part to build.
Seven rounds and an unnamed employer
The Fortune 200 company behind this seat is unnamed at the top of the process. Find out which one it is before you invest in five more rounds, since sector and the size of the existing finance team shape the job far more than the word founding.
Seven rounds, ending with a founder interview, is long for an analyst role. Block the time. The city list is wide, but if you take the remote option, treat the reliable work setup as a filter rather than a formality.
