Text from EY's official job posting, formatted by HireSetu. The employer's own page is the final word on details.

The tax in the title is thin

Read the responsibilities and most of the week goes to engagement administration: opening codes, chasing approvals, raising invoices against billing milestones, keeping trackers straight for budgets, time charged and recoveries. The tax part is the client base, and the role itself is operational, financial and administrative support.

Anyone expecting to learn international tax or transaction structuring will be disappointed. Your actual counterparts are Finance, Risk Management, Talent and the engagement teams, and what you're judged on is whether the tracker is clean and the invoice went out on time.

Excel plus a billing calendar

Invoice cycles bunch near month end, so the month has a rhythm: quieter early, then thick with follow-ups, reconciliation and dashboard updates. Weak Excel will hurt you more than weak tax knowledge. Lookups, pivot tables, and getting two sets of numbers to agree are the daily mechanics. Basic GST invoicing details and how receivables ageing works are general knowledge for this kind of desk, and the listing asks for data validation and reconciliation outright.

The degree line is a real filter. B.Com or BBA is named, and a portal will likely screen on it before a person reads your CV. An MBA with genuine ops or billing experience is a judgement call for the recruiter. A B.Tech with none is a stop.

Engagement codes and the money trail

An engagement code is the internal number that ties one client project to its budget, the hours booked against it and the invoices raised on it. The analyst's part is to open those codes and keep the project records current in internal systems, watch where each setup request has reached, and chase the people holding it up.

Two more terms carry the reporting side. MIS is the recurring pack of numbers a partner reads each week or month: hours charged, budget consumed, amounts recovered. Realization is what the firm actually collects against the standard rate for those hours, so a team that writes off time shows a lower realization even when the hours were logged.

National marks the Indian practice

In an EY title, the word National means the firm's Indian practice, serving clients in India. Titles that name GDS belong to Global Delivery Services instead, which does work for EY member firms abroad, so the clients, standards and working hours follow another country.

Read from the left, the title gives rank, service line, sub-unit, competency and city. Here it runs Analyst, Tax, National, ITTS, Advisory: an entry-rank job inside the Indian tax practice, attached to transaction tax engagements with the billing and tracker work that comes with them.

Where the other EY listings land

The tax consultant job in New Delhi is the law work: TDS provisions, statutory due dates and filing timelines, with SAP and Oracle, open to CAs and to B.Com and M.Com graduates. Forensics in Noida is background verification, checking candidate documents and confirming details over the phone.

Operations in Mumbai sits inside EY's own enabling functions, handling vendor onboarding and third-party approvals. Testing in Chennai is GDS technology work, asking for B.E. or B.Tech and some Java, .NET, Python or SQL.

The analyst job shares the 0-2 years band with the tax, forensics and operations roles, and its experience line points at back-office desks, billing and project coordination.
