Role Definition
Assists with technical analysis of manufacturing processes in all aspects of production, costs, quality, compliance to safety guidelines, and environmental requirements for manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Participating in identifying and implementing enhancements and modifications to equipment and processes.
- Monitoring equipment and process reliability; identifying and addressing problem areas.
- Providing coaching and development for operations technical staff and support areas.
- Providing engineering support on planning, development, operation, and maintenance of equipment, processes, or facilities.
Degree Requirement: Preferred Bachelor’s in Engineering or related subject from Tier 1 University or College.

Six skills, all at entry level
Caterpillar names six areas and puts each one at basic understanding: collaborative automation, RPA, lean manufacturing, manufacturing processes, problem solving and decision making, and engineering in a manufacturing environment. That is awareness level. You need to say what each one is and give an example; years of practice aren't the test.
Two of them, cobots and RPA, are the ones a mechanical or production engineering graduate is least likely to have studied. Learn the difference between a cobot and a traditional industrial robot, and what RPA does in a factory office: reports, data entry, paperwork.

If your college isn't on that list, put plant exposure first on the CV: a shop-floor internship, a lean or 5S exercise, anything where you watched a real process and changed something about it.

The work sits at the Hosur plant, onsite five days a week. You'd monitor equipment and process reliability, chase recurring faults and feed changes into how the line runs. Safety and environmental compliance carry the same weight as cost and quality here, so a lapse in any of the four becomes a plant problem.
The line about coaching operations technical staff stands out for a first job. You'd be the engineer explaining a modified process to technicians who have run that equipment for longer than you. Have one story ready about getting someone to change how they work, from a project, an internship or a workshop setting.
