Automation work with a customer at the other end

The core of this job is turning a customer's requirement into working PLC logic and a SCADA or HMI screen, then staying with it through testing, installation and commissioning. The listing puts customer interaction and cross-functional coordination right in the responsibilities, so this is not a desk where you write code and hand it over.

Expect to be the person explaining why a sequence behaves the way it does, on a call or at a site. If plant visits and commissioning travel sound like a chore, the role will wear on you.

A design authority tag on small projects

ABB calls this a design authority role for a discipline, then adds "low to medium complexity" and "small projects or portions of larger projects". That phrase sets the actual level: you own the engineering decisions on a defined scope, with review above you. Standard techniques and checklists are how the work gets verified, which means following a documented process closely counts here.

They also want basic design thinking and design-for-excellence concepts applied. Knowing what those mean in an industrial automation context is fair interview ground.

What belongs at the top of your CV

Make PLC logic development the first line, then SCADA and HMI engineering, then anything you have done on commissioning or testing support. Two used tools, ladder logic you have actually written, and a screen you have built say more than a list of every controller family you have heard of.

A project where you took a requirement through logic, HMI and a test is the strongest thing you can show. Mention the B.Tech branch clearly, since electrical and E&C are the two they name. Add any customer-facing work, even a college project demo or an internship handover, because this role carries that responsibility from early on.

For revision, be solid on PLC scan cycles, I/O addressing, interlocks, and how an HMI tag maps to a PLC address. Motion and drives come up naturally given the business unit, so understand how a drive is controlled from a PLC before you walk in.
