HireSetu's note

The job behind the title

Read system engineering in the automotive sense here: engine and vehicle testing, data generation and analysis, in-vehicle protocol tests, plus homologation and certification support. You'll be at test sites, on dynos and inside vehicles, not at a desk writing software. The simulation side, MATLAB and Simulink models for OBD functions, exists to explain field problems and trace root causes.

The degree filter is strict: mechanical or automobile engineering. Everything else the listing asks for is about time spent near real hardware, such as common rail fuel injection, dyno testing, data loggers, sensors, CAN and LIN. A season in an SAE Baja or Supra powertrain team counts for more on this desk than a high CGPA.

Hard filters and the rest

Mechanical or automobile bachelor's, fluent English and willingness to travel are the three items you can't work around. Travel is local and to other test sites, and on a testing team that can mean weeks away at a stretch. Sort that out with yourself before you apply, since the apprenticeship runs as per NATS guidelines and the placement is fixed for its duration.

The exposure list is where the sorting actually happens. Dyno time, common rail systems and instrumentation are written as prior exposure, but plenty of applicants will have SAE Baja behind them, so the ones who have logged and analysed their own data stand apart. Emission and OBD calibration is called a bonus: if you have it, put it above your coursework.

MATLAB and Simulink are named in the job description; Python sits in the skills list. If your Simulink use was a college lab exercise, build one small model that reads a dataset and plots a result. It gives you something concrete to discuss.
