HireSetu's note
The master's degree is a hard filter
GlobalFoundries asks for an MS or MTech, not a BTech, in a narrow set of specialisations: electrical with VLSI or microelectronics, materials science, solid state physics. That degree is the first filter.
The title says Senior Engineer while the experience bar says 0 to 2 years. That gap is ordinary in semiconductor firms, where senior is a grade on the ladder and the entry rung carries it. You get assessed as a fresher: how quickly you learn the tapeout flow, how carefully you check data, whether your scripts save the team time.
Getting the fresher CV read
The preferred list is unusually practical: Linux commands and directory structure, LSF, Python, Shell, TCL, MySQL, and EDA tools from Siemens, Synopsys or Cadence. Nobody expects the whole list. Linux fluency pays off daily, because the flow runs on a cluster and you'll spend hours moving files and reading job output.
LSF is a job scheduler, and learning to submit, monitor and kill jobs takes an afternoon. Any project where you scripted a repetitive task belongs near the top of your CV. Name the tool and the flow stage you used it on, since 'ran DRC on Cadence' says more to this team than a list of courses.
Weekends come with the job
Forty hours a week in the Bengaluru office, on a Sunday-Thursday or Tuesday-Saturday shift. Tapeout runs to fab and customer deadlines, so weekends are part of the schedule in a way they aren't in most engineering jobs. Ask how the rotation is split across the team.
The week is a queue: run the checks, validate the data, release it, chase the exceptions. You'll also own FMEAs, write flow documentation and train colleagues, which suits someone who likes tidying a process. Debugging EDA tool failures is part of it, and that work is mostly patience with log files.
