HireSetu's note

AutoCAD is the daily output

You will spend your time turning a customer's requirements into drawings and engineering structures, so 2D AutoCAD has to be a tool you can drive without thinking about it. Layers, blocks, dimensioning, clean revisions: these drawings leave your desk and become work products other people build from. Mentioning SolidWorks somewhere is fine, but lead your CV with the 2D drafting you have done and what happened to the drawing afterwards.

The other half is talking. Requirements arrive vague, and the job explicitly involves going back to stakeholders to pin down what the customer meant before you commit to a design.

Mostly customising existing products

People see a mechanical design title at a lift company and picture inventing a new elevator. The responsibilities here point elsewhere: you take what the product range already offers and shape it around one building, checking safety, codes, installability, maintainability and manufacturability as you go. The skill is fitting standard parts into awkward site conditions and knowing when something needs to be flagged as a deviation.

Cost sits inside that judgement too. You are expected to know roughly what different components cost and let that shape which solution you pick, which is a commercial instinct as much as an engineering one.

Fresher or a year in

This suits a mechanical engineering graduate with a year or two of drafting behind them, or a fresher who can genuinely draw. Nothing exotic is being asked for. The diversity line describes their hiring process, not a qualification you need to decode.

The European language note is the one thing they chose to single out, so if you have German, Finnish or French, put it near the top of your CV. In Chennai that combination is uncommon and easy to leave buried.

Ask which product family you would sit with and how design checks are split across the team, because self-checking your own work and reviewing colleagues' outputs are both named as part of the job.

How to apply

  1. Open Kone's careers site with the Apply button.
  2. Create a Workday account for Kone. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
  3. Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
  4. Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
