HireSetu's note

The degree decides, the rest is a bonus

Mechanical, instrumentation or chemical engineering is the filter here. Emerson asks for BE or B-Tech, and the technical content sits in flow control, so those three branches fit naturally. The preferred list, isolation valves, actuators, instrument components, destructive and non-destructive testing, metallurgy, fluid mechanics, is genuinely optional. If you have an internship or project around control valves, actuators or piping, put it near the top of your CV, because it tells the reviewer you already speak the product language.

Where the job actually sits

This gets confused with design and development engineer openings. Nobody here sizes a valve body or runs a simulation as the day's output. You read a customer requirement, work out which product from the portfolio fits, assemble the technical and commercial offer, and get it approved and submitted on time. Engineering judgement still matters, since a poor selection becomes a site problem months later. The satisfying part is a won order you shaped; the tedious part is the approval trail behind every offer.

Chasing inputs, then writing the offer

Sales, business development, PMO, legal, product management and factory PSQs each hold a piece of an offer, and you are the one assembling it and holding the date. The listing mentions multitasking and pressure, and that reads true: several enquiries run at once, each at a different stage. CRM hygiene is a real part of the job, not box-ticking, so expect to log activity and follow-ups consistently. Customer contact happens by call and email, with distributors and partners in the mix.

Points to clarify in the interview

Ask which product group you would support, since valves, actuators and instruments each sell differently and the technical depth changes with them. Ask how many offers one engineer handles in a month and what a normal turnaround is; that number describes the workload far better than the job title does. Travel expectations for pre and post order meetings are worth confirming, along with who signs off an offer and where approvals tend to stall.
