Quick answer: An onsite internship in Bengaluru that converts to full-time firmware work if you deliver. The deciding factor is whether you have debugged your own code on real hardware, since the devices you touch go straight into commercial farms.

Junior Embedded Engineer

Onsite · Bengaluru · ECE / EEE / Instrumentation / related branches

City Greens is a fast-growing AgriTech startup building automation and AI-driven solutions for Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA). Our platforms combine hardware, IoT, and AI to help modern farms, institutions, and agri-enterprises improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability.

We design and build the electronics that run commercial farms — control panels, sensor networks, dosing and irrigation controllers, and the IoT devices that connect physical farm hardware to our software platform.

Role overview

We are looking for motivated embedded engineers to join our onsite hardware team. You will work on live, production-grade devices — writing firmware, integrating sensors and actuators, and building the controllers that growers and farm operators depend on every day. This is not a training internship. You will be contributing to real products from week one.

Firmware development

Write and maintain firmware for microcontroller-based devices (ESP32, STM32, Arduino-class). Implement reliable control logic for sensors, pumps, valves, and dosing systems deployed in the field.

Sensor & hardware integration

Interface with analog and digital sensors (EC, pH, temperature, humidity, flow, level) and actuators. Handle communication protocols — I2C, SPI, UART, RS485/Modbus — and bring up new hardware from bare board to working device.

IoT & connectivity

Connect devices to our platform using MQTT and real-time data streams over WiFi/GSM. Build firmware that reports device state accurately and responds to remote commands reliably.

Testing, debugging & collaboration

Test and debug on real hardware using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers. Work within a structured team using GitHub for version control and code reviews. Write clean, maintainable code and share regular progress updates.

Who this role is for

Engineering graduates or final-year students in ECE, EEE, Instrumentation, or related branches

Self-learners who have built things — personal projects, academic projects, or hobby electronics

Engineers who want to work on real deployed hardware, not breadboard demos

Individuals who take ownership of tasks, communicate proactively, and follow through

Required

Solid understanding of embedded C / C++

Microcontroller programming (ESP32, STM32, Arduino, or similar)

Reading schematics and datasheets, and basic circuit understanding

Serial communication protocols — I2C, SPI, UART

Hands-on debugging with multimeter / oscilloscope

Problem-solving mindset and ability to debug independently

MQTT or other IoT data protocols

RS485 / Modbus for industrial devices

PCB design (KiCad / Eagle / Altium)

Python for test scripts or tooling

Any hardware project you can demonstrate or show working

Internship-to-full-time pathway

This role begins as a 3-month onsite, unpaid internship focused on real contribution and performance. Interns who demonstrate technical ability, ownership, and consistent delivery will be offered a full-time position.

Starting salary

₹25,000 / month

Health insurance

Work on production hardware — not sandbox projects

Exposure to IoT-integrated, real-time control systems

Structured code review and mentorship from the hardware team

Growth into senior firmware, hardware design, or platform roles

HireSetu's note

Firmware that has run on a real board

The core of this job is control firmware: reading analog and digital sensors, driving pumps, valves and dosing lines, and keeping a device stable in the field. What gets you shortlisted is embedded C plus one microcontroller family you know beyond tutorials, and the habit of debugging at a bench with a multimeter or scope.

Personal, academic and hobby projects count as proof here, and the listing says so. A CV full of coursework with no board behind it reads thin. One device you built, flashed and kept running for a week tells them more than any list of subjects.

Three months without pay, then a call

Unpaid internships that convert are common; three months onsite in Bengaluru on no income is a real cost, so work out whether you can carry rent and living expenses for that stretch before you apply. Conversion is decided on performance through the internship, and nothing is guaranteed on day one.

The detail worth pinning down when you talk to them is when the review happens and who signs off. Code reviews are part of the setup, which for a junior is the most useful thing you'll get out of the three months.

The two skill lists do different jobs

Required: I2C, SPI and UART at driver level, reading schematics and datasheets without help, and debugging independently. Good to have: MQTT, RS485/Modbus, FreeRTOS, PCB layout in KiCad or Altium, Python for test scripts. Nothing on the second list should stop you applying; all of it is learnable on a live product.

If you're revising, spend the time on the dull parts of embedded work: interrupts and timing, what a datasheet timing diagram is telling you, how a bus scan works when a device doesn't answer, and triggering a scope on a signal that only misbehaves sometimes. Bring one broken thing you fixed and be able to explain how you found it.
