The support rota is part of the job
Buried in the duties is a line about responding to off-shift and weekend support calls when complex application problems come up. That shapes the role: you own production issues for systems other teams depend on, including code you did not write this quarter. The applications serve Caterpillar customers, dealers and internal business groups, so a broken service has an audience outside engineering. Find out how the rota is split across the team before you commit.
Spring Boot experience is the hard filter
The basic qualifications ask for two years of development and one year specifically in Java Spring Boot. A CV full of general Java work reads very differently from one with Spring Boot services on it, so put those projects at the top. OSGi also appears in the top-candidates list, which is an unusual ask for a microservices posting and tells you some existing services run on that framework. If you have never touched it, say so plainly and describe the closest work you have done.
New builds sit beside old systems
People read microservices and picture greenfield work. This description mixes new program development with maintenance of existing mobile, web, cloud and server systems, and places you under a lead or senior developer on the more complex components. You also run integrated testing and customer acceptance testing on what you build. Reading unfamiliar code and changing it safely matters as much as writing new services.
Topics to revise
The stack listed is broad, and a few areas carry most of the day-to-day weight. Practise tracing a request across services through logs and describing how you would debug a failing service in a test environment. Be able to walk through a REST API you designed and explain the YML and JSON that configured it. On data, know how you would wire a service to a relational database and to MongoDB, since both are named. JUnit and Mockito come up for unit tests, and a working grasp of Kafka topics, partitions and consumer groups will help, because streaming is listed as a nice-to-have. Reading a Sonar or Fortify report and acting on it is a small skill that pays off in teams like this.
