HireSetu's note

You support the person who signs off

Read "analyst" here as the person behind the senior colleague: pulling figures, keeping models current, assembling the material they present. You won't own a client relationship or a research view at this level. What you do own is whether a number in a model is right and whether the pack reads cleanly at 8am.

The work is repetitive in stretches. Updating comparable company data, chasing one figure in a filing, re-cutting a chart after a comment comes back. People who do well in these seats get a small kick out of catching an error before someone else does.

Excel and a house style

The day runs on Excel and PowerPoint, plus whatever data terminal the desk subscribes to. If your spreadsheet skills stop at college level, fix that before you apply: build a three-statement model off any listed company's annual report, then a summary sheet that pulls from it without breaking.

Writing matters too. Research notes and client materials follow a house style, and first drafts come back covered in comments. Short, clear sentences are the thing to practise, and a two-page note on a company you follow is a decent sample of how you think.

After a year or two

Modelling, fast data work and writing to someone else's format are portable skills. People with this background turn up in research support, corporate finance teams, credit analysis, consulting and FP&A. Inside a bank this size, moving between the desks you support depends on openings being there, so raise internal mobility when you get a chance to.

The posting commits to an in-office setup in Chennai. Ask about the shift window early, since GBS teams here support desks running on US and UK hours.

How to apply

  1. Open Bank of America's careers site with the Apply button.
  2. Create a Workday account for Bank of America. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
  3. Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
  4. Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
