HireSetu's note
Reproducing failures is the actual job
The core loop is simple to describe: take an already-written test case, run it on a set platform configuration, and when something breaks, reproduce it exactly and file the defect. Nobody is asking you to design a test. What earns your keep is narrowing a failure down to driver, BIOS setting, cable, card or board.
That is also why assembling a computer shows up as a requirement. You will be pulling cards, drives and Type-C peripherals in and out of machines as part of the job.
Install, rerun, log
Windows installs and configuration lead the responsibilities for a reason. A large share of the week goes to imaging machines, swapping parts and rerunning benchmark or stress loops to see whether a failure returns. Standups exist so you can say what is blocked, what reproduced and what you need from the next team.
The client's calendar sets your hours and your location, so shifts can move, and the hardware sits on racks. Owning a bank of systems at once is normal, so a fair question is how many machines one technician runs.
Power states and the boot stack
If you are moving over from desktop support, hardware repair or a lab internship, the vocabulary to pick up is UEFI and BIOS settings, S-states, device power states, and how Type-C, USB, camera and disk drivers fail differently across silicon. Revise what S0 through S5 mean and how a device moves between D0 and D3, since power management appears both in the test tools and in the analysis work.
Debugging here is comparative: same test, two builds, one difference in the log. Comfort with reading a Windows event log beats memorising spec names.
