The service half of the job

The responsibility list is two lines long: keep the daily routines going and hit the SLAs. Everything else hangs off those. This is tier-one work under direct supervision, so you take the ticket, work the checklist, and hand off what you can't close.

Customer service sits on the required skills list beside cybersecurity and networking. That tells you plenty. You'll be explaining status to people who are waiting, chasing updates, and keeping the clock visible.

The shape of a week

Daily activities plus SLA targets point to a shift roster. Ask about the rotation and whether nights are in it when you get a call, because that shapes the week more than anything else on the page.

Expect alert queues, recurring checks, ticket updates and notes on what you did. The variety comes from what lands in the queue.

Prep hours for a fresher

Networking carries this job. Ports, protocols, how traffic moves between hosts, what a log line is telling you: that's what you'll lean on with every ticket. If your course was heavy on tools and light on TCP/IP, fix that first.

Scripting is listed with no language named. Python is the safe pick. Automating one repeated check is the sort of thing that buys back time on shift.

The next step after this

A year or two of triage is the standard entry into security operations. The usual moves after that are tier-two analysis, incident response, or detection work if you like writing rules and scripts.
