Quick answer: Quality engineering for KLA's semiconductor metrology software in Chennai: functional, regression and system-level testing, plus automation and a GenAI layer. Master's freshers and bachelor's holders with two years of software testing both qualify.

From KLA's job posting

To make electronics, you need chips, wafers, transistors, reticles, and... To make these, you must see, test and manufacture them at scale—faster and better than ever before. That's where KLA comes in. Whether you're early in your career or an experienced professional, you'll solve complex challenges, work alongside brilliant minds and help shape the future of technology.

Group/Division

The Semiconductor Products and Customers (Semi PC) business unit designs, builds and sells KLA’s product portfolio to help chip manufacturers meet high-quality standards for technologies like AI, data centers, automotive and electronic devices. Our inspection, metrology, and analytics systems detect and monitor defects across logic and memory chips, specialty semiconductors, wafers, reticles, advanced packaging, process equipment and materials.

We also develop technologies for specialty processes, IC substrates, and PCB manufacturing, including etch and deposition, component inspection, and imaging and analytics. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) division delivers industry-leading metrology solutions essential to advanced semiconductor manufacturing. Its portfolio includes systems for measuring film thickness, critical dimensions, composition, and resistivity—key to developing and scaling next-gen IC processes.

FaST partners closely with customers from early R&D through high-volume production, ensuring performance and process alignment.

HireSetu's note

Two doors past the degree bar

The minimum qualification splits two ways: a Master's degree with no work experience, or a Bachelor's with two years of related work. Related means testing software on the job, so a bachelor's fresher with internships and college projects sits just outside that door. If that's your situation, a Master's is the cleaner route in.

The rest of the list bends. One of Python, C++, Java or C# at a working level is enough; nobody expects all four. Root-cause analysis and validation you can show through how you describe a bug you chased down, not through a certificate. AI/ML exposure is marked preferred, so it adds weight without being a gate.

The AI work sits on top of the testing

Read the AI section closely and the shape of the job changes. Those responsibilities describe using LLMs, agents and prompt engineering to sharpen test design, defect analysis, reporting and internal quality tools. The software being qualified is metrology: film thickness, critical dimensions, composition, resistivity. Narrow measurement code, and your regression suite is what protects it.

If your CV is a stack of LLM side projects with no test automation, reorder it. Automation frameworks and a scripting language come first, AI projects after. A GenAI utility that cut down your manual test triage is the one worth describing in detail.

One detail the listing is upfront about: travel to customer fabrication sites for deployment and troubleshooting. Ask how often, since it shapes the week.
