Quick answer: A 0-2 year mechanical engineering role in Noida where the deliverable is design intent for the water/steam cycle and plant control: calculations, operating concepts and control specifications. Commissioning support is mostly remote, with short site trips mixed in.
From GE Vernova's job posting
Role Summary/Purpose
The Plant Operability & Design team has the concept and design responsibility for the water/steam cycle as well as for the overall plant integration and the overall plant control. The team duties include defining the basic design parameters of the plant, issuing functional equipment specifications, specifying operating and control concepts, as well as control narratives for the plant control. It serves both NPI and OTR projects, performs dynamic simulations and provides ITO support including concept verification and functional guarantee definition.
Roles and Responsibilities
Within this team, the System Engineer has the concept and design responsibility for his/her area of work. For projects in execution phase, he/she is required to consider the project-specific contractual design requirements to align them with partners and/or customers in coordination with project management.
For NPI projects, the Plant/Product Development Specification forms the base for his/her work and requires close coordination within the project team and with the Program Manager. Technical regulations and standards as well as GEV’s EHS policy form part of the plant systems design.
The System Engineer has the technical and time schedule responsibility for his/her engineering work and services within the project, which includes:
- Verification of the overall cycle concept as well as defining individual BOP system concepts
- Performing system design calculations and issuing functional equipment specifications
- Defining operation concepts for BOP systems and HRSG as well as for plant start-up and load control
- Participating in software acceptance tests
- Providing site support during project commissioning
- Leading design and cost comparison on system level for NPI programs
- Preparing Control Specifications for individual system and overall plant control, with a strong level of technical ownership
- Supporting commissioning activities mainly remotely, while being flexible for short site missions when required
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelors / master’s in mechanical engineering or related disciplines from an accredited university or college, or equivalent knowledge and experience
- 0-2 years of experience in power plant engineering
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- Know and apply design methods, rules and tools to specify the systems/ components
- Specific Knowledge about the relevant codes and standards like ANSI, ASME, NFPA, TAC, LPC, UL, FM, IEC, VDE etc.
- Knowledge of Interfaces specially on controls systems & electrical interfaces
- Willingness to travel
- Fluency in English
Desired Characteristics
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong capacity of adaptation (to suit local regulations)
- Readiness to travel for workshop inspections
- Ability to learn and to understand quickly
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- “Customer Focus” and “Total Cost Focus” minded

HireSetu's note
Design lives in specifications and narratives
New engineers picture power plant design as P&IDs and CAD drawings. Here the output is written and calculated: functional equipment specifications, operating concepts for the HRSG and balance-of-plant systems, and the control specification for the whole plant. You verify the cycle concept, then spell out how it starts, loads and trips.
The hard part is holding an entire plant in your head while arguing over a setpoint. The team owns plant integration and control, and your area is a slice of it.
A week of calculations and reviews
Expect system design calculations, writing and revising specifications, and design reviews with mechanical and electrical engineers where you field questions on how the plant will run. Commissioning support is remote, so plant queries land by email or call and you work the answer out from the design. Short site missions cover commissioning and workshop inspections.
The team serves both new product programmes and projects already sold. Ask which you'd join first, because the pressures differ.
Revise how the cycle behaves
Be able to walk through a combined cycle start-up from cold, say what shifts at part load, and explain why a trip or interlock sits where it does. Revise water/steam cycle thermodynamics: feedwater heating, drum level, steam temperature control, condenser behaviour. Interlocks and trips come up in every operability discussion.
You'll also write control narratives and sit in software acceptance tests, so know how a control loop is described and tuned.
Settle the travel and the working hours
Noida, onsite, relocation covered. The posting asks for willingness to travel, so ask how many site trips a year and whether they cluster around commissioning windows. Remote commissioning support rarely sticks to office hours, so clarify what that looks like in practice.
Several standards are named across mechanical, electrical and fire disciplines. Ask which ones actually govern the systems you'd own.
