HireSetu's note
GenAI is a mandatory skill here
Most entry-level testing roles file AI tooling under nice-to-have. This one puts Generative AI concepts at the top of the mandatory list and gives it its own line in the responsibilities: using AI tools to improve test coverage. A CV showing only manual test cases and Selenium does not answer that.
Bring something concrete, like a project where you used an LLM to draft test cases from a spec, generate edge cases, or summarise a pile of defect logs, and be able to explain how you checked what it produced. Generated cases need validation, and "I use ChatGPT" is not an answer to that.
The degree is a hard filter: computer science, IT or a related field. Internships and project work in testing are listed as a plus, so freshers with a solid college project are in scope.
Test design first, scripts later
The day-to-day is test plans, test cases, execution, defect write-ups and follow-ups with developers. Automation appears as "where applicable", and automated frameworks sit in the preferred column, so the scripted side grows as you learn it. Python, Java or JavaScript is expected at a basic level, and test code may land on your plate, so keep one language sharp.
Code reviews are part of the role. That is more involvement with the codebase than most entry-level test jobs give you.
Two directions after a couple of years
Testing experience with AI tools on top opens two paths. One is SDET-style work: building and maintaining automated suites. The other is quality work on AI features themselves, checking model outputs, prompt behaviour and messy inputs that have no single right answer. Both rest on test design that finds real defects, so the fundamentals still carry you.
Confirm which side you would be on: testing software that uses AI, or using AI to test software. They are different jobs with different daily work.
