Key responsibilities

Do you want to develop systems that provide real-time execution intelligence to traders? Are you eager to grow into Java and modern cloud deployment on a platform that matters?

We're looking for a Software Engineer to

  • develop and maintain our Java alert engines that process real-time trading events (alerting pipelines over AMPS messaging)
  • build and improve our CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes-based deployments (Helm, Ansible, Terraform) for the platform
  • contribute across a polyglot codebase spanning Go, JavaScript and kdb/q alongside our core Java services
  • write clean, well-tested code and take part in code reviews to keep quality high
  • learn the Pulse domain quickly and grow into an owner of engine and deployment components

Your Career Comeback

We are open to applications from career returners. Find out more about our program on ubs.com/careercomeback.

The team

You'll be working in the Pulse Desktop team, part of Agency Trading Algos Crew, in Pune, India. We are a close-knit engineering team building the platform that powers sales traders with execution intelligence via real-time alerting for the Agency Trading business. Our stack runs from Java alert engines and Go distributors, through kdb/q real-time data, to JavaScript front-ends — all deployed on Kubernetes via a fully automated CI/CD pipeline. You'll get broad exposure, real ownership early, and plenty of support to grow.

Your skills and experience

  • solid Java fundamentals — object-oriented design, collections, testing (required)
  • genuine eagerness to learn, strong problem-solving ability and intellectual curiosity
  • exposure to CI/CD and an interest in build/deployment automation
  • familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, ideally on Azure
  • working knowledge of databases (SQL / PostgreSQL)
  • any exposure to Go, JavaScript or kdb/q is a plus
  • a collaborative, team-first approach and clear communication
  • You’re curious to explore how AI can improve how we build, deliver, and optimize workflows. You do this with sound judgment – validating outputs and aligning with policies, risk standards, and ethical use.

The required list is short

Object-oriented design, collections, testing. That is the whole of what UBS marks required, alongside SQL or PostgreSQL and some feel for CI/CD. The polyglot stack, Go and JavaScript and kdb/q, appears as a plus, so a strong Java engineer with none of it on their CV is still in range.

Testing sits in that required line next to design and collections, and clean, well-tested code with code reviews is listed as a responsibility. Expect to explain how you test a service, not only how you structure one.

AMPS, the messaging layer under the alert engines, is unfamiliar to most Java developers. It is a pub/sub system built for low latency. Read a page of its docs and the architecture conversation will make sense.

Career breaks are catered for

UBS runs a Career Comeback program and says plainly that it takes applications from returners. If you stepped away for a few years and your last production Java was a while back, that gap is not the first thing working against you here. Look up how the program works on the UBS site before applying, because the route in can differ from a standard application.

UBS's page also says assessments may form part of the process. Plan for a coding or aptitude test as well as conversations.

Days that aren't all Java

A Java title here does not mean Java only. The platform runs Go distributors, kdb/q for real-time data, JavaScript front ends, and the whole thing ships on Kubernetes through Terraform, Helm and Ansible. Engineers who want to live inside one language will find that tiring. Engineers who like seeing the deployment side of their own code settle in fast.

The AI line in the requirements is short and careful, about validating outputs and staying inside risk and policy. In a bank that is the whole point: experimenting is fine, ungoverned tools are not.

Ownership arrives early

The work includes growing into an owner of engine and deployment components, which on a team this size comes sooner than the job title implies. Real-time trading plumbing is also durable experience. Low-latency messaging, Kubernetes deployment and streaming data show up on trading and platform teams across every bank, and the ones who have shipped both the service and its pipeline are harder to find than plain Java developers.
