Quick answer: A small product team at the company behind Selenium, hiring an engineer who ships in days and can work in code nobody walked them through. The stack is TypeScript/Node, Go and Python, and you'll touch more than one.

About the Team

We’re a small advanced tech team that takes ideas from “someone had a hunch” to “customers are using it”—usually in days, not sprints. This is a high ownership team: talking to whoever has the problem, deciding what’s worth building, cutting scope, shipping, and then deciding whether to double down or move on.

Required Skills

Deep fluency in at least one modern general-purpose language—and the ability to pick up others quickly. We work across TypeScript/Node, Go, and Python, and you’ll touch more than one. We care far more that you know one language inside out—its type system, concurrency model, testing story, etc.—than that you’ve used our specific stack. An ideal candidate would be comfortable:

  • Reading and modifying an unfamiliar codebase without a guided tour
  • Writing and maintaining tests that hold up in CI, not just on your laptop
  • Publishing and versioning something other people depend on — a CLI, an SDK, a package
  • Debugging across a boundary you don’t own (a third-party API, someone else’s service, a CI runner)

Please note our Privacy Policy for Applicants when applying for a job at Sauce Labs.

Sauce Labs is proud to be an Equal Opportunity employer and values diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender identity/expression/status, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status.

Security responsibilities at Sauce

At Sauce, we will commit to supporting the health and safety of employees and properties, partnering with internal stakeholders to learn and act on ever-evolving security protocols and procedures. You’ll be expected to fully comply with all policies and procedures related to security at the department and org wide level and exercise a ‘security first’ approach to how we design, build & run our products and services.

HireSetu's note

Depth in one language beats a long list

The listing says it plainly: knowing one modern language inside out matters more than matching their stack. That makes the stack itself the soft part of the application. Pick the language you can talk about properly, its type system, how it handles concurrency, how you test it, and let the other two be things you learn on the job.

The four bullet points are the real filter: reading unfamiliar code unaided, writing tests that survive CI, publishing something other people depend on, debugging across a boundary you don't own. Each one is a habit you either have or you don't, and each is easy to give an example of.

Test runners, grids and CI

Sauce Labs runs a cloud platform for automated testing, so the product sits in the middle of other people's CI pipelines. Knowing how a suite behaves inside CI versus on a laptop is directly useful: flaky tests, timeouts, shared state between runs. So is what a version bump does to everyone downstream who installed your package.

A story about a bug that crossed into a third-party API or a CI runner and needed tracing from your side is the most relevant thing you can bring to a conversation about this work.

Three days a week in Gurugram

The header says Hybrid and the body is firm: three days in the Gurugram office, two remote. Treat any board tag reading remote as stale and plan the commute around it.

Confirm which days the team is in and whether those are fixed, and ask how the team is spread across time zones. A group shipping in days needs overlap with whoever reviews and releases.

After a year or two

A small advanced team with high ownership means you end up owning a CLI, an SDK or a service end to end, release process included. That moves well into platform, developer tooling or infrastructure roles, and into product engineering at bigger companies.

There's little scaffolding: you talk to whoever has the problem and decide what's worth building. Ask how much of the work is greenfield against how much is maintenance, since that shapes what the first six months feel like.
