From PlayPower Labs's job posting
About PlayPower Labs
PlayPower Labs builds software for leading EdTech companies that serve millions of learners.
We help our clients solve hard product and engineering problems so they can deliver better learner experiences through advanced technology, thoughtful design, and reliable execution.
We’ve been fully remote since before COVID and plan to stay remote. We are US-based, with a development center in Gandhinagar, India.
What We Believe
We believe technology is a force multiplier for education.
Great software can make learning more engaging, effective, personalized, and accessible for millions of learners worldwide. The future of education will be shaped by advanced online learning, AI, and education data, and we want to help build that future.
Education data combined with AI is opening up new ways to create adaptive, personalized learning experiences. We’re here to turn those opportunities into real products that learners, educators, and EdTech companies can actually use.
The Role
We’re looking for a high-energy fresher who wants to ship real products, not just follow tutorials.
You’ll work across Angular/React, Java/Node.js, AI tools, agents, and MCPs to build useful, secure, good-looking software. You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you should be curious, fast to learn, and comfortable using AI to punch above your weight.
This role is for someone who can ask sharp questions, take feedback, figure things out, and keep moving without being limited by traditional technologies.
You can find details on interview process here.
What You’ll Do
Build product features using Angular/React and Java/Node.js.
Review your own code and AI-generated code carefully.
Apply security-first thinking: auth, permissions, input validation, secrets, dependencies, and safe AI usage.
Use AI tools, agents, MCPs, and automation to code, debug, test, and learn faster.
Bring energy, curiosity, and momentum to a small team building a real product.
What We’re Looking For
Strong fundamentals in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, APIs, databases, and Git.
Exposure to Angular or React and Java or Node.js through projects, internships, coursework, or self-learning.
Strong sense of UI/UX and care about how the product feels.
Basic understanding of OWASP, cloud basics, Docker, CI/CD, or vulnerability scanning.
Startup energy: Ownership, Speed, Curiosity, and no “that’s not my job” attitude.
Bonus Points
You’ve built side projects, internal tools, automations, agents, or AI-powered features.
You've won coding competition, earned credible certifications, secured top rankings in competitive coding, etc.
What We Offer
Remote work, real product exposure and a chill team that cares about building good things.

HireSetu's note
Lead your resume with what you built
This posting names side projects, internal tools, automations, agents and AI-powered features as bonus points, so put a working project at the top of page one: a link, one line on what it does, the stack, and one thing you'd rebuild. Competitive coding ranks and certifications are also called out, so list them if you have them.
After that, show one complete loop: a screen in React or Angular, an API in Java or Node, a database behind it, all in Git. A single small app covering all of that beats five half-finished ones.
Which requirements bite and which don't
No line here is a hard filter, because it's a fresher hire. The nearest thing is real exposure to a frontend framework and a backend language through a project, internship or self-study, plus solid JavaScript or TypeScript and HTML/CSS.
Docker, CI/CD, cloud basics and OWASP sit under basic understanding, which means gaps there won't sink you. Knowing why a container exists and what a pipeline does is a weekend of reading. UI/UX is listed as something they're looking for, not a bonus, so come with an opinion about why you laid a screen out the way you did.
Security deserves separate attention. Auth, permissions, input validation and secrets are written into the responsibilities, and this is software used by learners, so treat it as part of the job and not an afterthought.
Both sides of the stack
Software Engineer here means frontend and backend in the same week, with AI tools and agents as your own equipment. The AI language is about how you build, debug and test, not about training models, so this isn't an ML research job.
It's also client work across several EdTech products, so ask how a fresher gets placed across projects and whether you stay on one stack or move between React, Angular, Java and Node.
Revise the bits freshers skip
The OWASP list in plain terms: injection, broken access control, misconfigured secrets. Then the everyday mechanics behind it, where a token is stored, how a session expires, why input gets validated on the server even when the browser already checked it, and how secrets reach an app without living in Git.
On the build side, be comfortable with branches and pull requests, designing a table or two for a small feature, and rendering loading, empty and error states when an API call comes back. Reading an unfamiliar chunk of code and explaining what it does line by line is the daily reality of joining someone else's codebase, and it's worth practising out loud.
