Job Title

AI Agent Engineer (0–3 Years Experience)

About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic AI Agent Engineer to join our Engineering team. You will design, build, and optimize intelligent AI agents capable of reasoning, retrieving information, invoking tools, collaborating with humans, and automating complex workflows.

You will work with modern LLMs and agentic frameworks to develop production-grade AI systems that solve real-world engineering problems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop AI agents using modern LLMs and agentic AI frameworks.
  • Build agents with capabilities such as:
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Tool calling
  • Human-in-the-loop workflows
  • Multi-step reasoning
  • Memory management
  • MCP Servers integration
  • Optimize prompts, agent context, and system instructions for reliability, accuracy, and cost.
  • Develop and maintain agent memory strategies, context management, and conversation state.
  • Build and maintain projects using Claude Code for AI-assisted software development.
  • Integrate AI agents with external APIs, enterprise tools, databases, and internal services.
  • Evaluate, benchmark, and improve agent performance using appropriate metrics.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business requirements into AI-powered solutions.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in LLMs, agentic AI, and AI engineering.

Must Have

  • 0–3 years of experience in AI Engineering, Software Engineering, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience building AI agents using LLMs.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)
  • Tool Calling
  • Human-in-the-loop systems
  • Function calling workflows
  • Experience with:
  • Prompt Engineering
  • Agent Context Tuning
  • Memory Management for AI agents
  • Hands-on experience using Claude Code for building and managing AI-assisted software projects.
  • Hands-on experience with Agentic AI frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, etc
  • Good programming skills in at least one language (Python or JavaScript/TypeScript preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.

Good to Have

  • Experience with frontend technologies such as Next.js or React.
  • Experience with Node.js backend development.
  • REST API development and third-party API integrations.
  • Experience integrating models from Hugging Face.
  • Understanding of multi-agent systems, agent communication, and agent orchestration.
  • Familiarity with agent frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, OpenAI Agents SDK, or similar.
  • Experience with vector databases and semantic search.
  • Basic understanding of cloud deployment and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Personal projects, internships, or open-source contributions involving LLMs or AI agents.
  • Passion for experimenting with emerging AI technologies and rapid prototyping.

What You'll Work On

  • Intelligent autonomous agents
  • Enterprise AI assistants
  • Multi-agent orchestration systems
  • AI-powered engineering workflows
  • Retrieval and knowledge systems
  • Human-AI collaborative applications
  • AI developer tooling and automation

What We're Looking For

  • Curiosity and a strong learning mindset.
  • Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals.
  • Interest in building reliable, production-ready AI systems rather than only experimenting with models.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.

HireSetu's note

Built agents carry the weight

Two things decide fit here: hands-on LLM agent work and Claude Code used on real projects. LangChain or LangGraph is the named framework requirement, and Python or JavaScript/TypeScript on the language side, one of the two is enough.

With 0 to 3 years on the label, a fresher with three or four agents they can explain properly is a stronger applicant than someone with five years of backend work and no agent builds. The listing says production-grade, which means someone is going to ask what happens after the demo works.

Hard filters and the soft list

RAG, tool calling, function calling, human-in-the-loop, prompt engineering, context tuning and agent memory are all listed as must-haves. They overlap more than the list suggests: one non-trivial agent forces you through retrieval, tool schemas, prompt iteration and some form of memory. Being able to talk through those choices is what the must-have line is really testing.

Frontend work in Next.js or React, Node backends, REST integrations, vector databases, Hugging Face models, Docker and Kubernetes sit in the good-to-have pile. So do CrewAI, AutoGen and the OpenAI Agents SDK, which matter less than fluency in whichever framework you have genuinely built with. The degree is a preference, so point your CV at projects.

Where the week actually goes

Agent work is mostly debugging. A tool returns malformed arguments, the loop never terminates, context grows until the bill hurts, retrieval hands back the wrong chunk. The first working version takes a day; the weeks after go into prompts, context and memory strategy.

Evaluation and benchmarking are on the responsibilities list, so you will build test cases and metrics to see whether a change helped or hurt. Rapid prototyping is named as something they want, so expect to ship rough versions and refine them. Calling an API from a notebook is not this job.
