Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) – Design Engineering
Department: Design Engineering
Location: Ahmedabad
Employment Type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated and analytical Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) to join our Design Engineering team. The role includes a structured training period across manufacturing, assembly, quality, and service functions to build a strong understanding of Injection Molding Machines (IMM), followed by a transition into a Mechanical Design Engineer role.
Training Exposure
During the initial training period, you will gain hands-on exposure to:
- Machine assembly and manufacturing operations
- Hydraulic, electrical, and control systems
- Quality inspection and machine testing
- Service, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities
Key Responsibilities After Training (Design Engineering)
- Design and develop components and sub-assemblies for Injection Molding Machines.
- Create 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly layouts.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and FEA for critical components.
- Generate and maintain Engineering BOMs and technical documentation.
- Collaborate with production, sourcing, and assembly teams to improve manufacturability and product performance.
- Support root cause analysis, design improvements, and engineering change implementation.
Education
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Production Engineering (recent graduates or final-year students).
Technical Skills
- Exposer to Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, or similar CAD software.
- Basic knowledge of FEA and engineering analysis tools.
- Strong fundamentals in machine design, strength of materials, manufacturing processes, and GD&T.
Desired Attributes
- Passion for machine design, automation, and hydraulic systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and technical documentation abilities.
- Eagerness to learn and work in a cross-functional environment.

HireSetu's note
Training starts on the floor
Assembly, manufacturing, quality inspection, testing and commissioning all come before any desk work. That's deliberate: a designer who has watched an injection molding machine get built, wired and run draws better parts for it. Hydraulic, electrical and control systems are part of the training, so the floor teaches you the same hardware you'll later model in Creo or NX.
Put CAD work above your CGPA
Creo and SolidWorks lead, then NX and AutoCAD. Name the machines or assemblies you modelled, not the software list. GD&T, machine design, strength of materials and manufacturing processes sit under everything the design team does, and an FEA project with a mesh, a load case and a conclusion reads far better than a course certificate. Ahmedabad has a dense plastics and packaging machinery cluster, so an internship anywhere near it deserves a line.
Two things to pin down
The length and shape of the training rotation, and where you land after it. Design Engineering is the stated destination, but a trainee can stay longer in quality or service if the plant needs people there, so get the placement criteria in writing. Ask which IMM series the Ahmedabad team designs in-house, and whether a first-year engineer owns a whole component or spends the year on drawing revisions.
Two years from here
Expect component and sub-assembly ownership on injection molding machines, plus BOMs, drawings, engineering changes and root-cause work when something misbehaves on the floor. From there, product design, applications engineering or a move to another capital-equipment maker are all open. Plastics machinery experience is narrow but wanted, since these machines sit in packaging, medical and auto component plants across the country.
