HireSetu's note

The eligibility bar is narrow

Recent graduate or 2025 batch, no active backlogs, no prior full-time work and no prior apprenticeship. Anyone with a year on a payroll is out, and so is anyone who has already done an apprenticeship elsewhere. That combination is tighter than it reads at a glance.

The required skills are pitched at coursework level: basic Python, C or C++, a Linux command line, OSI and TCP/IP, and having opened Wireshark once. Covered that in college and you're in range. The preferred list, Git, Agile, test automation, IoT protocols, is where applicants separate from each other.

Inside the verification work

The title says firmware, but the day sits on the testing side. You run test cases, capture packets, read protocol logs, reproduce failures and write them up. Itron's devices are meters that talk across networks, so chasing a fault means working out which layer is misbehaving.

Verification teaches you how firmware fails, and that knowledge stays useful if you move into development later. Before you apply, take one real Wireshark capture of your own: a TCP handshake, a filter, a retransmission. Reading the OSI model in a textbook and reading a live capture are different skills.

Lab time and the hybrid label

Hybrid here means office days set by your manager and attendance when the team needs to be together. Some of this job is physical: setting up devices, wiring a test bench, configuring networks, reflashing a unit after it fails.

Expect to be onsite a fair amount in the first few months, and plan your commute to the Bengaluru office on that basis.

Evidence you carry forward

Embedded test teams in India hire heavily out of apprenticeships like this, and what moves you onward is proof of work: test cases you wrote, defects you traced to a root cause, scripts you automated. Keep a file on every bug with the capture, the diagnosis and the fix, including the ones you didn't solve alone.

A year or two from now that record will say more about your ability than the degree line on your CV.

How to apply

  1. Open Itron's careers site with the Apply button.
  2. Create a Workday account for Itron. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
  3. Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
  4. Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
