Quick answer: This job is validation of the software that gets flashed into vehicle ECUs, OTA and workshop updates alike, tested on benches, HIL rigs and real cars. UDS diagnostics and hands-on Vector CANoe or CANalyzer use are the two things that decide whether a profile fits.

HireSetu's note

The experience bar

The title says Software Engineer, but the content is mid-level automotive test work. It asks for test suites you have built and maintained, CI/CD pipelines, log analysis with DLT and Wireshark, and testing on HIL rigs and in vehicles. That comes from a couple of years on a bench, not from a degree.

Automotive test experience in diagnostics or infotainment makes this a sideways move. Strong Python automation from another domain transfers on the scripting side; the bus and diagnostic work is the gap to close.

Diagnostics and bus basics

Know UDS as a request-response protocol: session control, security access, read and write data by identifier, routine control, and the negative response codes. The practical skill is reading a failed flash in a trace and telling a diagnostic rejection from a timeout.

Be clear on CAN, CAN FD, LIN and Automotive Ethernet: how they differ in speed and what each connects to in a car. Practise building a test node or panel in CANoe if you have only used it for logging. CAPL handles bus-level scripting and Python the surrounding framework, so have a view on when you would reach for each.

OTA and workshop updates take different validation paths: one arrives over the air, the other through a diagnostic tool in a garage.

Ask before you commit

How the team splits bench, HIL and vehicle testing matters. A role that is mostly rig work feels different from one that puts you in cars weekly. Ask which OEM programmes you would cover and how many update campaigns land per quarter.

The posting body says five days a week in office, so plan for Bangalore onsite and confirm whether that applies from day one. Also ask how much of the test suite is already automated and how much you would be building.

How to apply

  1. Open HARMAN's careers site with the Apply button.
  2. Create a Workday account for HARMAN. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
  3. Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
  4. Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
