Quick answer: Firmware work on the OpenBMC stack that brings up IBM's Power, Z and LinuxONE servers, open to freshers. C and C++ on Linux with some embedded exposure is the real gate, and a chunk of the preferred-skills list has nothing to do with this job.

HireSetu's note

C and C++ on Linux is the gate

Two requirements carry this listing: hands-on C and C++ on Linux distros, and firmware or embedded software design experience. Everything else is secondary. OpenBMC is the actual codebase, an open source project on GitHub that runs the management controller on server boards, so your work is patching a large upstream codebase you did not write. Exposure counts here, not years, since the posting is pitched at entry level. Git, Gerrit, Jenkins and Perl or Python are the supporting tools, and a patch you have submitted anywhere public is the most useful thing on your CV for this.

Three cities and one team placement

The job is hybrid on a daytime shift with no travel, and it sits in Bangalore, Hyderabad or Pune. The firmware organisation covers Power, Z and LinuxONE, and which team you land in changes the hardware you touch. Ask about site and team placement before you commit, plus how many days a week in office. If you live outside all three cities, sort out relocation intentions early.

Read the preferred list carefully

The preferred section names cross-platform mobile development with iOS and Android. That has no connection to server firmware, and it looks lifted from a mobile app requisition, so don't spend weeks on Android tutorials for this. Agile ways of working and cloud familiarity do turn up across the lab's teams, and both are cheap to speak to from any college project.

Firmware is a narrow specialism

Server firmware is a small field with few entry points, which is exactly why a start here holds value. Because OpenBMC is open source, your contributions stay visible and travel with you. After a year or two the natural moves are deeper firmware, Linux kernel work, systems software or validation. Switching to application or web development later is a sideways step at best, so treat this as a commitment to low-level systems work.
