Degree, ESG work, one language
Three requirements set the bar: a university degree in commerce or science, working knowledge of a coding language, and past work on ESG topics. Automation experience is marked preferred, so it separates candidates without shutting them out. Project management knowledge helps but reads as secondary.
Be honest with yourself about which language you'd call working knowledge. You'd be automating fund disclosure processes, which means code running against real product data. A certificate from a weekend course won't hold up; a script you wrote for a college or internship project will. The requirements count experience, not years, so a fresh graduate with one solid ESG project is in scope.
The sustainability here is disclosure and process work
Read 'sustainability analyst' too quickly and you picture ESG research or stock picking. The team you'd join, Product Infrastructure & Standards, works on the plumbing: sustainability data and process flows from product development through to investment guideline compliance, a workflow tool for product launches, automation of disclosure tasks. You'd read regulation, work out what it means for a process, and coordinate the change with business and technology teams.
Someone who enjoys systems and documentation will settle into this faster than someone hoping to analyse companies on environmental metrics.
One year, no guaranteed seat
The apprenticeship terms are explicit that a permanent job with Deutsche Bank Group does not follow automatically. Plan the twelve months around what you can walk away with: a workflow tool you built, an automation you shipped, disclosure documents you wrote. Those are things to show at the next interview.
The team sits inside DWS, the listed asset manager, and works with product and sustainability colleagues globally, so written English and clean documentation get noticed. Confirm one thing early: whether you land in Infrastructure & Standards or elsewhere in Platform Sustainability, since the day-to-day differs.
Fund operations, product governance and ESG data teams at asset managers run similar work, so the year holds value even without a permanent offer.
