HireSetu's note

The month has a shape

The close sets the rhythm. Most of the month is steady: entries get processed, balances get checked, questions from Controllers, FP&A and the substantiation team get answered. Then month-end lands, and the last days of the month plus the first few of the next one get tight, with reports to submit and reconciliations to sign off.

RES is the bank's real estate arm, so the accounts you reconcile are the ones that side of the business creates: security deposits, rent and service charge receivables, payables, accruals, prepaids. A deposit can sit on the books for years while a payable clears in weeks.

Breaks are the other constant. When two systems disagree on a balance, someone has to trace it to the transaction behind it and clear it. That is where the detail orientation in this posting stops being a line on a CV.

Getting ready for this one

The degree is the hard filter. A bachelor's is named, and there's no experience requirement sitting next to it, which is what makes this a genuine first job. MS Office is the only tool listed, and for this kind of work that means Excel: pivot tables, lookups and cleaning up a messy export. Get past typing values into cells.

Refresh the basics of double entry, accruals and prepayments. How a journal entry moves through the ledger, why an accrual reverses, what separates a prepaid from a fixed asset. The work stays close to entries and balances, nowhere near consolidation.

The posting's two softer asks matter more than they look. Discretion, because you'll handle sensitive numbers and pass them to people in other markets. Writing, because half of a reconciliation query is explaining a difference to someone who can't see your screen. Clearing a break in four plain lines is a skill of its own.

How to apply

  1. Open Citi's careers site with the Apply button.
  2. Create a Workday account for Citi. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
  3. Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
  4. Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
