Primary Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software that deploys ML models and algorithms into production.
• Build and support AI/ML solutions using NLP, NLU, computer vision, deep learning, automatic speech recognition, and semantic and intent classification models.
• Work with large-scale computing and data-processing frameworks.
• Apply machine learning, statistics, probability and optimisation to business problems.
• Write production-quality code for AI/ML tools and applications.
• Analyse and prepare data for model development and deployment.
• Communicate findings to leadership and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with data scientists, AI researchers, product teams and software engineers to move models into production.

Required

• Graduate degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor's in CS, Software Engineering, AI, ML, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related.
• SQL and relational databases.
• Data structures, algorithms, OOP and software development fundamentals.
• Statistics, probability and data analysis.
• SDLC, Git and testing methodologies.
• Basic ML concepts, algorithms and model evaluation.
• Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch or similar.
• Proficiency in Python, Java or Scala.
• Analytical, problem-solving, debugging and communication skills.

Preferred

• Internship, academic project or hands-on AI/ML work.
• Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Spark, Databricks, Hadoop or distributed computing.
• Healthcare or regulated-data experience.
• MLOps, CI/CD, model deployment and monitoring.
• NLP, computer vision, deep learning or predictive analytics use cases.
• Generative AI, LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering or AI agents.
• Docker and Kubernetes.

"Graduate Degree" Means a Bachelor's Here:

• In UnitedHealth Group's India postings, "graduate degree" refers to a completed undergraduate degree, and the very next line names a Bachelor's. A Master's is not required.
• Grade 26 is UHG's internal band for this entry-level engineering role; the success profile beneath it ("with guidance from senior engineers") describes a fresher-to-early-career hire.

Must-Have vs Preferred

• Gen-AI, LLMs, RAG and agents sit entirely in the preferred list. The required list is classical: statistics, probability, model evaluation, and one ML framework.
• SQL is a hard requirement. ML-focused resumes often skip it; a project with real joins and aggregations over messy data closes that gap.
• DSA and OOP appear as required fundamentals, so expect a coding round alongside ML questions.
• Any one of Python, Java or Scala meets the language line, though nearly all the ML frameworks named are Python-first.
• Cloud, Spark, Docker and MLOps are all preferred. One end-to-end deployment covers several of those at once.
