HireSetu's note
Sitting behind the account manager
The title sounds like a closing seat. You're the second person on an account: the account manager owns the relationship, you keep follow-ups moving, work leads and referrals inside existing accounts, and report what clients say back to internal teams. Tracking what competitors are doing on price and positioning is part of it.
Sales Specialist roles at consumer and retail brands are individual, quota-carrying closures. This one is enterprise: fewer accounts, longer cycles, and early wins that look like groundwork.
A realistic fit for freshers
The degree line is loose: sales, marketing, business administration or a related discipline, or experience that shows the same. With 0-2 years and a Mumbai base, this suits a recent graduate starting out in tech sales, and someone a year into another job who wants the switch.
The skills block is a taxonomy dump. Balancing, Merchandising and Wireless Sales have nothing to do with this work. B2B, CRM, prospecting, demos and value propositions are the ones to have something to say about.
Technical selling without an engineering degree
People read "technical selling" and assume a hardware or networking background is required. The listing asks for learning agility, digital fluency and customer centricity. You will need to get across HPE's portfolio: servers, storage, networking and the software around them, explained in a client's language.
That learning curve is most of year one. Competition from Dell, Cisco, Lenovo and the cloud vendors never stops, which is why the competitor tracking duty sits in this role.
The next two years
From an entry seat like this, people go deeper into account management or sideways into presales and solution work, where the product knowledge turns up in demos and proposals. Which route opens depends on the territory.
Ask how a specialist and an account manager split one account, and how leads get handed over. That answers whether year one is customer-facing or spreadsheet work.

How to apply
- Open HPE's careers site with the Apply button.
- Create a Workday account for HPE. Workday logins are separate for every company, so an account made for another employer won't work here.
- Upload your resume and check every auto-filled field; Workday often misreads dates and job titles.
- Answer the screening questions, submit, and look for the confirmation email from Workday.
