Quick answer: A delivery role on AXA's Global Data Platform in Gurugram: converting legacy risk applications into Python/R code and Databricks pipelines, then keeping them running. Python and R are both listed as required.
From AXA's job posting
Gurgaon, Haryana, India
As part of the development and industrialization of solutions within the Global Data Platform (GDP), AXA Group Risk Management (GRM) is looking for a Databricks Developer specializing in Python (or R) and SQL, capable of contributing to the technical implementation of data processing solutions, software component development, and deliverable validation.

Sustainability
At AXA XL, Sustainability is integral to our business strategy. In an ever-changing world, AXA XL protects what matters most for our clients and communities. We know that sustainability is at the root of a more resilient future. Our 2023-26 Sustainability strategy, called “Roots of resilience”, focuses on protecting natural ecosystems, addressing climate change, and embedding sustainable practices across our operations.
Our Pillars
- Valuing nature: How we impact nature affects how nature impacts us. Resilient ecosystems - the foundation of a sustainable planet and society – are essential to our future. We’re committed to protecting and restoring nature – from mangrove forests to the bees in our backyard – by increasing biodiversity awareness and inspiring clients and colleagues to put nature at the heart of their plans.
- Addressing climate change: The effects of a changing climate are far-reaching and significant. Unpredictable weather, increasing temperatures, and rising sea levels cause both social inequalities and environmental disruption. We're building a net zero strategy, developing insurance products and services, and mobilizing to advance thought leadership and investment in societal-led solutions.
- Integrating ESG: All companies have a role to play in building a more resilient future. Incorporating ESG considerations into our internal processes and practices builds resilience from the roots of our business. We’re training our colleagues, engaging our external partners, and evolving our sustainability governance and reporting.
- AXA Hearts in Action: We have established volunteering and charitable giving programs to help colleagues support causes that matter most to them, known as AXA XL’s “Hearts in Action” programs. These include our Matching Gifts program, Volunteering Leave, and our annual volunteering day – the Global Day of Giving.

Python and R both count
The skills list separates Python and R but puts "excellent command" against each. Plenty of data postings let you lean on one language and pick up the other on the job; this one is written as though you already have both. If your R comes from statistics coursework or actuarial modelling and your Python from pipelines, say that with a project behind each.
Know one project per language well enough to explain the logic, the data and the bugs you hit. Insurance risk work leans on statistical R, and the platform side leans on Python, so the split matters when you describe what you've built.
Mostly code, tests and support
The listing calls this an execution role, and it means it: code, defects, performance tuning, tests, documentation and support for GRM users. Architecture and product decisions sit with the GDP architects and Product Owners, and the developer builds to their standards.
That makes the testing half as real as the building. Unit, integration and regression tests, plus traceability on what changed and why. Have something concrete to say about how you have tested a pipeline, and about how you built it.
The migration sets the first two years
Through 2026 and 2027 a large batch of legacy vendor and in-house applications gets rewritten as Python/R code and Databricks jobs; from 2027 the balance shifts toward maintenance and further development. Join near the start and much of the work is conversion: reading old applications, some thinly documented, and reproducing their logic on the new platform.
Ask how those applications are handed over and whether the people who built them are still around. That answer decides how much of your first year is archaeology.
Gurugram, with European colleagues
GRM teams sit in Paris, Winterthur and Madrid, and this India pool exists to serve them, technical support for end-users included. Expect part of your week to run on European time; confirm the rhythm and how much of it is fixed when you talk to them.
You report to a Vice President in Group Services, which puts you a few steps from the people setting platform priorities.
