HireSetu's note
Travel is set at half your time
The listing puts travel at 50%, and says so plainly. Suppliers to semiconductor equipment makers sit in India and overseas, so a good share of this job happens at their plants: auditing processes, chasing corrective actions. The rest is in Bengaluru, working with procurement and design engineers.
Freshers should weigh that before applying. Week-long trips on short notice suit some people and wear others down. Ask how travel is scheduled and which supplier base you would cover. Relocation is supported, so being outside Bengaluru is not a blocker.
The degree is the filter, the rest is bonus
The bachelor's in mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering is the hard filter. So is reading a drawing, following a manufacturing process and using Excel for tracking and reports, since supplier performance data is the daily material.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt sits under nice-to-have. Few freshers hold one, so read it as a preference for people who have done quality coursework, not a bar to clear. An internship in semiconductor manufacturing or quality helps your case. Not having one does not rule you out.
Closer to quality than purchasing
A supplier engineer is not a buying job. Procurement handles price, contracts and orders. You handle what arrives: whether a component meets spec, why it failed, what the supplier will change. Root cause analysis and corrective actions are the core of it, run jointly with supplier teams and reported internally.
You will sit between procurement and design engineering when they disagree about a part. If that appeals, this is a solid way into supplier quality work across manufacturing.
Learn the corrective action language
The methods are named: SPC, Pareto charts, trend analysis, FMEA, process controls, 8D. Of those, 8D is the one freshers rarely meet in college, and it is the standard format for reporting a corrective action. An hour with a worked example pays off.
The processes are narrower: metal joining such as e-beam and vacuum brazing, plastic welding, and material characterization for ceramics, graphite and quartz. You will not be running them, but knowing what they do makes the technical conversations concrete.
