Hired by UST, working on a client's product
In engineering services, UST employs you and places you on a client's project. Several listings make that plain, asking candidates to be "ready to work as per the client schedule" and to attend the client team's stand-ups. One Glassdoor account from a fresher describes three to four months of training followed by an internal interview for a specific client account before being assigned to a project. That's normal in services, but it's worth understanding before you join. The client decides much of your technology, your hours and sometimes your location, and moving between accounts is how your experience broadens.
The automotive roles
Embedded software developer, Coimbatore. Work on AUTOSAR, the standard software architecture used in car electronic control units, with Python listed as mandatory alongside strong debugging skills. The listing names the in-vehicle networks you'll touch (CAN, CAN-FD, LIN and FlexRay), the Vector tools used to work with them (CANoe, CANalyzer and the CAPL scripting language), hardware security modules, hardware-in-the-loop test rigs, and the requirements and process standards the industry runs on: IBM DOORS and ASPICE. Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle powertrains is a bonus.
Engine calibration, Pune. Calibration means tuning the thousands of parameters inside an engine control unit so that an engine meets its emission limits and performs as intended. This role needs a working knowledge of internal combustion engines, engine management systems, sensors and actuators, and selective catalytic reduction, the exhaust treatment diesel vehicles use to cut nitrogen oxides. The tools are ETAS INCA for calibration, iCDM or vCDM for managing calibration data, UniPlot and design-of-experiments methods, and MATLAB. A valid driving licence is listed as an advantage, because calibration work often involves vehicle testing. The body of the listing calls it Associate II while the title says Associate I, so confirm the grade with the recruiter.

The semiconductor roles
Semiconductor software product development, Bengaluru. Two openings for engineers with strong C and C++ who can read, debug and fix build and test failures in large codebases. The listing mentions BIOS, embedded Linux, DSP and firmware, Perforce for version control, and AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code, which it treats as a normal part of the job.
Validation technician, Bengaluru. Post-silicon platform validation: installing and configuring Windows on test systems, running selected test cases, benchmarks and stress and power-management tests, and reproducing reported failures on specific hardware configurations. It expects basic knowledge of BIOS and UEFI, USB and Type-C, drivers, and system power states, plus a willingness to work with systems mounted on racks and to follow the client's timings. It's a practical entry point into the chip industry for graduates who prefer hands-on testing to design.
How UST titles work
UST's entry titles carry a roman numeral: Developer I, Associate I, Tester I. The numeral is the level within that job family, and I is the starting grade. UST listings also state a job ID and the number of openings, which is unusual and useful; the semiconductor software listing, for example, had two openings. Quote the job ID when you follow up with a recruiter.
Getting through UST's rounds
Candidate accounts on Glassdoor describe a few patterns depending on the drive. Campus candidates sit a common online test of aptitude, reasoning, communication and coding. A 2025 account from Thiruvananthapuram describes an online assessment testing debugging and aptitude, then an English proficiency test, then an interview and a group discussion. Technical interviews focus on your projects, core subjects and coding, with examples ranging from writing a sorting program to Linux commands and object-oriented concepts such as exception handling. For the engineering-services roles above, expect domain questions too: CAN frames and AUTOSAR layers for the automotive roles, BIOS, UEFI and power states for the validation role.
