Space Mission Engineers integrate spacecraft design, orbital mechanics, launch systems, payload requirements, mission operations, communication systems, and ground infrastructure to successfully achieve scientific, commercial, defense, and exploration objectives in space.
What They Do
Define mission requirements, analyze mission feasibility, design mission architectures, plan spacecraft operations, perform orbital analysis, coordinate spacecraft and launch vehicle integration, manage mission timelines, analyze mission risks, and support spacecraft operations after launch.
Daily Responsibilities
Develop mission concepts, analyze orbital trajectories, prepare mission requirements, perform trade-off studies, coordinate spacecraft subsystems, analyze launch opportunities, support mission simulations, monitor mission performance, prepare technical documentation, participate in mission reviews, coordinate with engineering and operations teams.
