Overview
Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineering focuses on developing the algorithms, sensors, software, and control systems that enable aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, launch vehicles, missiles, UAVs, autonomous drones, and planetary rovers to determine their position, navigate accurately, maintain stability, and accomplish mission objectives autonomously. GNC Engineers combine aerospace engineering, control theory, robotics, embedded systems, and artificial intelligence to create intelligent autonomous aerospace systems.
What They Do
Develop guidance algorithms, design navigation systems, implement control laws, integrate sensors, perform trajectory analysis, develop autonomous flight software, validate navigation accuracy, support flight testing, and optimize mission performance.
Daily Responsibilities
Develop guidance algorithms, simulate flight trajectories, integrate GPS and INS systems, tune Kalman filters, analyze sensor data, develop autonomous flight software, perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing, validate navigation performance, support flight tests, prepare technical reports, participate in mission simulations.
