Thermal Engineers ensure aerospace systems operate within safe temperature limits despite extreme environments such as atmospheric heating, cryogenic conditions, vacuum, aerodynamic heating, engine combustion temperatures, and space radiation.

What They Do

Design thermal control systems, perform heat transfer analysis, develop thermal protection systems, analyze spacecraft temperature behavior, optimize cooling systems, support engine thermal management, conduct thermal testing, and ensure aerospace components survive extreme thermal environments.

Daily Responsibilities

Perform thermal simulations, calculate heat transfer rates, analyze temperature distributions, design cooling systems, evaluate thermal loads, develop spacecraft thermal models, perform Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, support thermal vacuum testing, analyze engine cooling requirements, prepare thermal design reports.
